What kind of strings does this come with as standard?

Mine had rounds - but generally speaking you’ll need to change your the strings when you get new bass - they tend to be dull from dirty hands trying the bass out. Flats sound good on this type of bass if you want a thump woody classic 60s tone.

What is the full length of the instrument?

I make it 1120mm, or 44.1” in imperial. Depends on where you measure, owing to the angle of the headstock. I measured the inside of the custom case ... (recommend the case, but make sure you get the Hofner one, not the copy which I’ve heard doesn’t fit as well. Not sure a soft bag works for a fiddle bass.)

can this bass be played without an amp at home for noodling?

Yes it can as it is a semi acoustic, but not of course as loud than through an amplifier, can hear yourself play for practice purposes. This is what I do. I am ex 60's bass player who used to have an old Hofner when first started playing. Good sound too
