Q: Is it easy to remove? I rent and thinking of using it to temporarily cover my kitchen cupboards

i have not tried to remove it sorry. but i think it may live a bit of sticky on sum-things

It looks fine after being washed, but I only use a mild detergent

Yeah i reckon it would be fine , so long as the edges are sealed against water getting behind the adhesive...Over all its a brilliant product that covers so easy , and is very wipable and easy to clean ..just make sure that the surface you are sticking it onto is one that is relevant ..i bought it for surf board decals, it did the job and held the water back no problem but when scuffed it came off really easy as water gets behind it... i would say go for it , for the price defo worth the buy for what you want...makes ideal kitchen cupboard coverings too, or table tops..Obviously not just in red but the product in general :) hope this helps
