Perfect for motorcycle
I used the rugged mount to hold and power my Garmin Montana 600 as I navigated down through Western France, across Northern Spain and back up through the Central France in August.I use short arm and ball mount that replaces one of the handlebar clamp bolts (rather than the awful 'U' clamp) to mount the rugged mount. This puts the Montana dead centre over the handlebar clamp and under my clocks; easy to see without taking my eyes off the road and out of the way of anything else I need to see. It powered the Montana and held it securely for the 2,300 miles of that trip. The security screw prevented an attempted theft of the unit in Montpellier (note; the security screw is a nice touch, preventing opportunist attacks, but it will not defeat a concerted attack. Do not leave your satnav mounted if you have to leave your bike, even for a couple of minutes). The wiring provides for everything you might want, but I didn't, so I cut the cable just above the junction and spliced in some two-core auto cable to hard-wire the cradle to the battery (keeping the 2 amp in-line fuse). The cable is routed discretely under the handlebars and back under the tank so the whole thing is very tidy and looks neat, even when the unit is not mounted. The mount has a handy integral rubber cap to protect the contacts when the unit is not mounted. It is tough, very secure (mechanically) and mounts and powers my Montana. I don't know what else I could want from it.

Great product
Great product. I bought a Garmin Montana 600 and I needed a mount to secure it to my motorcycle. I've had a Garmin mount before for a different unit so I knew roughly what to expect and I already had the RAM parts to attach it. I have a RAM ball on a plate on the back of the mount, one RAM arm and one other plate with ball on the motorcycle dash (you will need similar parts too). The mount is perfectly compatible with the GPS unit and it is secure under arduous conditions (off road). You do have to wire the unit into the motorcycle but that shouldn't be an issue if you have a basic knowledge of vehicle electrics (12V & 0V). I have mine connected to ignition switched 12V because the Montana GPS has an internal battery anyway. There is a star locking screw on top which stops the unit being removed at petrol stations etc and it keeps the unit physically locked in place so you know it won't fall off if riding in rough conditions.
