Transformative
Swami Satyananda Saraswati's 'Yoga Nidra' is a transformative gem that introduces readers to the art of conscious relaxation. This book not only demystifies the practice but also delves deep into its profound benefits for the body, mind, and spirit. The author's clear instructions and insightful explanations make the practice of Yoga Nidra accessible to both beginners and experienced practitioners. I found the step-by-step guidance and various techniques to be incredibly helpful in achieving a state of deep relaxation and heightened awareness. Whether you're seeking stress relief, better sleep, or a path to self-discovery, this book offers an invaluable resource to unlock the power of conscious rest and inner exploration.

accessing the subconscious mind
Highly recommended yoga technique for deep relaxation and accessing the subconscious mind and thereby releasing tensions. If more people did yoga nidra on a regular basis I am sure the world would be a happier place as people would be more at peace with their inner world. All yoga teachers should be aware of this book and bring the technique to the aid of all those stressed students who come to their classes. At least they can recommend the many commercially produced CDs on the market by some quite well known Swamis. One word of caution though: from my experience yoga nidra needs to be practised in moderation i.e. not every day. It is a very powerful technique especially with visualisation. It is enough just to do the body scan - that can be done daily - but the visualisation on top can just be too powerful. I have learnt from experience. Jon Kabat-Zinn provides a very good body-scan meditation. Swami Pragyamurti takes it a step further and brings in some visualisation but just enough. There are some CDs out there that perhaps overdo the content. The 'dosage' of such CDs, especially if they take one through the chakras, needs to be low or you may be asking for an overload of subconscious matter that you can't control. So please, if in doubt keep the dosage low to once or twice a week!Enjoy in moderation the wonderful world of yoga nidra.

The art of relaxation
This book takes the reader through the theory behind the practices, the practices themselves and then the research which has been conducted around the effects of the practice. With a background in Psychology, I like the fact that this is evidence based. In fact there are pictures within the book showing the regions of the brain which are activated during the practice which is fascinating. This is my second copy, the first of which was mislaid in a move. I have been practising Yoga Nidra for several years now and I find it the most beneficial of all the mindful practices that I undertake. I have a very busy mind and Yoga Nidra is one of the few methods that I have found that really enables me to find stillness. As it says on the back, that this is a systematic method of inducing complete mental, emotional and physical relaxation, and that is certainly my experience. It is also possible to get CDs of Yoga Nidra which I have also used extensively and are recordings of the type of transcript found in the book. It is a really valuable tool for personal use or for those teaching mindfulness.

Great superinteresting well written and referenced book
This is a great superbook, that explains in a very scientific but simple way, step by step, the theory and practice of yoga nidra, plus it does include many yoga Nidra practices. I feel it is suitable for readers of all levels. The only comment I would have is that you feel that the book is a translation in the practice chapters because the author uses lot of sentences in third person or complex sentences that are not necessarily appropriate when practicing Yoga Nidra (they make the practice less fluent) but this is easy solvable.I guess it would have been great to have a CD with the book with somebody reading the text of the Yoga Nidra exercises reported in the book - but again, the lack of CD may be a stimulus to read these chapters in depth, personalize them and record them for personal use that I'll do.Great book, great interesting learning that I would definitely recommend.

Brilliant book. I love the practises and use this book to teach in my Yoga classes - varying the passages if necessary.
Yoga Nidra is an incredibly deep practise within the system of Yoga and this book gives a clear understanding of the science behind it and the benefits it brings. i teach some of the practises from it in my yoga classes and the students benefit enormously - gaining wonderful relaxation and then feeling energised. I would say the practises are definitely NOT for those new to yoga - my students have been coming to me for 3 plus years - but if taught sensitively and with awareness everyone can gain.Very spiritual and I enjoy this school of Yoga - Satyananda very much. The book was delivered within 2 days. An excellent service from "YOgaMatters"

Essential Reading for Yoga Teachers
This was a great read and very informative. The Bihar School books are some of my favourites, as they are well written and easy to understand.Packed full of practices for class or personal use. I am a yoga teacher and have used this book as inspiration for my own scripts, as well as using them as they come. This is a great resource for teachers and students of yoga.
