A representative, quality South Korean film.
A representative quality film demonstrating the Korean rise in the entertainment industry. I wish more South Korean films are made available from Amazon with English subtitles.

An outstanding Korean film
This is another of the outstanding films from the Far East of which there have been so many this century (In the Mood for Love, Spirited Away, A One and a Two, Parasite, Drive my Car, etc.). Clearly inspired by Hitchcock’s Vertigo, and with several scenes at great heights, it tells of a detective investigating the case of a man found dead at the foot of a steep mountain, whose Chinese wife seems totally unsurprised when informed of it. Fast-moving and quite complicated to follow, with much of the “dialogue” in text-messaging, it needs to be watched at least twice (first time round I completely missed the significance of a phone-swap). The devastating ending is stunning.

Very confusing
If I spoke Korean I might give this a higher rating, but being a non speaker I found the film virtually impossible to follow. It is very dialogue driven and for the relatively short time the subtitles are on there is insufficient time to make out who is who or what is being said. I managed to get the overall drift of it, but I couldn't help missing a lot of detail. If you don't speak Korean, don't bother!

Cliffhanger
A man falls from a mountain peak in South Korea in what looks to be a suicide. However, Detective Hae-joon begins to suspect that the dead man’s wife, Seo-rae may know more about her husband's death than she is letting on. However, as he digs deeper, suspicion turns into obsession and Detective Hae-joon soon finds himself lost in a web of deception and his own private life falling apart.Decision to Leave was a pretty good mystery with an ending I did not see coming. However, it was the way it was shot and the style of filming that mostly had me hooked, with large parts of it reminding me of Hitchcock's films, especially Vertigo. It's a fairly gentle game of cat and mouse throughout and doesn't quite grip as hard as the director's other films. With patience there is still plenty to enjoy here, even if it is one that perhaps won't stand up to repeat viewings.

Decision to leave Dvd
I regret for not taking the right decision to leave before I pressed the play button. A complete mess of a movie - nothing, absolute nothing is realistic with it's cringe dialogue, confusing flashbacks and exhausting running time. Straight to the charity box.
