A font of wise words and good advice
Sam Slattery is a very good doctor. It turns out that he is a very good writer too. This type of book is not my usual bag, but this one is clearly and concisely written, easy to read and brimful of good advice that you wish you had followed 10 years ago. But hey, never too late! A book that is well worth your time and money. Read it.

If there were more physicians like Dr. Slattery, we would not be in such a mess physically and emotionally. This book is an excellent handbook on the human body amd mind. If you are stuck in the pill-for-every-ill paradigm, and want to live a more vibrant life, this book will get you on the path.

It's easy to read, easy to understand. Dr. Sam delivers great explanations on the the importance of keeping healthy habits and how these 5 simple elements work together to create a healthy body and our best selves. Really enjoyed the read.

An excellent insight and practical guide into the link between mind and body
I saw Dr Slattery speak earlier this year in relation to reflux and the brain-gut dysfunction and his thoughts on how we need to re-frame medical care has genuinely been quite life-changing for me both personally and in my role as a Speech and Language Therapist working with adults with acquired conditions related to their speech and swallowing. His book is so well written with easy to ready scientific explanations and practical advice on making changes to reduce stress and reduce the impact that has on the body! It’s a must read alongside Gabor Mate’s ‘when the body says no’ and van der Kolk’s ‘the body keeps the score’

If you suffer from chronic undiagnosed health issues then this book is definitely for you!
This book has transformed the way I think about my health. I suffered from what GP’s diagnosed as IBS for decades. Little did I realise that my ill health was linked to childhood trauma. Sam’s book helped me understand the gut brain link and how it can have a huge negative effect on one’s health if not addressed. By dealing with the early trauma, discovering foods I was intolerant to and focusing on exercise and mindfulness I have managed to navigate a path to a normal healthy and fulfilling life. Dr Sam’s holistic approach to health is groundbreaking and will enable people to look at their life story as a means to finding positive health outcomes.

This is an excellent book which is a must for anyone interested in how to lead a healthier and happier life! As a midwife I found the content of this book very informative and I have recommended this to all of the pregnant women in my care.
