Ball Bubble Remover & Head Space Tool

I misplaced my old clear plastic bubble wand primarily because the lack of color made it easy to misplace. It frequently disappeared into the surroundings so it was a pleasant surprise to see some color added to this new version. The headspace gauge is also a helpful addition from my old model. It is nine inches long so it keeps hands away from the hot contents of the jars.The tool may appear to be superfluous, but it really is essential to ensuring a good canning result when processing foods that allow air to be trapped in the jar like pickles, tomatoes, etc. and sliding this utensil up and down inside the jar effectively releases any air bubbles. Metal can get hot and hard to handle and it is also possible to damage the jar edge so for this task I prefer plastic.

Does the job. Handy since measures head space and removes air

This tool works great! You can get it cheaper by ordering the whole Ball canning accessory set, but I don’t need the other tools and didn’t want to waste plastic. So I paid the high price to get just the bubble popper/headspace measure and I love it! I was using a little ruler, but this is much quicker.

As Alton Brown would say, a great multitasker.I used it to remove air pockets & bubbles from myjars of tomatoes prior to canning. Use it with the narrowend down to release bubbles, or the wide end down topush the tomatoes down in the jar. The steps on the endare to measure the headspace in the canning jar, but wefound with Ball Widemouth jars, the 1/2" point we neededwas easy to visualize on the jar itself.Even if I didn't need it for headspace, it worked well forthe air pockets.

I love the head space measurer. However, one can't really use the bubble remover feature and the head space feature in the same process; it becomes too messy. When making jam, one must run the bubble remover, then turn it over and measure the head space. Needless to say, the jam then is coating the handle. Two of course would solve this problem, although I don't think this particular bubble remover would be my preference. I like the measurer very much. Another problem is that hot water melts and deforms the tool, making it useless as bubble remover, but still works as head space measurer.

I purchased this for $8.20 plus tax on Amazon and even though it was cheaper than the current price of $9.89, I still feel this is outrageously expensive. I had to purchase it here because I could not find it at Walmart or Home Goods or anywhere else.This plastic "wand" could not be more than five cents to produce. Nevertheless, it works to measure the head space needed from the top of the jar when canning and for that it is indispensable. I can also use it to remove the air bubbles in a jar but that can be done with a chopstick as well.

Great tool for getting the air bubbles out and getting head space just right. I have lost product from too much or too little head space. I used to use a knife for air pockets and eye-ball the head space, but this handy little tool takes the guess-work out of canning and we do a lot in the Fall. Worth the few bucks it costs!

Ball always puts out good products. Only word of advice, be cautious about how hot water is that you wash this in, mine is curved now because I think I washed it either in dishwasher or extremely hot sink water. My fault, not producers. . .
