Effective grit reduction when washing your vehicle.
These Scratch Shields (i bought two, one for the wash bucket the other for the rinse bucket) have worked out really well. The guards come flat packed and are easy to put together by clicking the fins into the grid. You can size it nicely to your bucket before pressing the fins firmly into the grid for a pretty tight fit. The plastic is light yet appears quite durable and flexible, so should last well. The fins which go on the bottom of the grill located very positively when pressed firmly home and I don't think would have come loose, unlike the experience some other reviewers had problems with. However, to make sure I drilled a small hole in each in the middle and secured it with a small cable tie (The Bodger's Best Friend - Please see photo) and it will definitely not come apart in use now.Disclaimer - This will probably invalidate the warranty, so do so at your own risk. That said, the manufacturer could provide small pre-drilled holes and cable ties to achieve this and I would have given the product 5 stars. The adjustable fins allow a good fit with buckets such as the B&Q type (Please see photo) and although the guard moves a bit in use it is fine and works well.As far as how it works, I compared the water left over in the wash bucket and rinse bucket after washing the car using the two-bucket system. There was no grit in the bottom of the wash bucket, but a noticeable amount in the bottom of the rinse bucket. Consequently, I do think the guard does its job well.

Budget Quality
Does the job but definitely build to a budget. The bottom fins are supposed to fit neatly against the bucket sides for a range of bucket sizes, but really just sit on the bottom of the bucket. The fins also have a tendency of falling off, even when attached in the correct numbered order. Works best with a deep bucket, as the grit guard will prevent use of water below the guard level.

Heavy duty, good quality
This is a strong, bulky plastic scratch guard - not some sort of flimsy low-budget knock-off.I noticed a few people having problems with fitting. Basically, there are four fins that attach to the guard. Each one is a slightly different profile (intentionally), and if you follow the instructions it will fit anything but the smallest bucket by adjusting the fin positions in sequence (1 to 4, clockwise). The fins push in, but don't clip in. As such, you can't adjust to the point you'd ramp the guard into the bottom of the bucket and it will stay; the fins simply push out of their slots. What you can do however is get a very even, close fit. If the guard floats a little, not and issue as you can push it back down with the sponge to the bottom and scrape against it to remove grit (just like you're supposed it).As such, I have no issue with this product and am very happy with it. I'm particularly pleased the plastic is a nice chunky and solid quality.

Idea is excellent
Idea is excellent . All debris falls through guard and not onto your cleaning sponge or cloth. The only downside is the plastic slotted panels, which sit under the guard to set the height, are liable to come off. Thats why I could not give it 5

Does its job but flimsy and overpriced for what you get.
It serves its purpose (sort of), but the adjustable flaps are very flimsy. I often find the flaps simply fall off when I rub the wash-mitt against the guard, meaning the guard falls to the bottom of the bucket so the mitt picks up some of the grit again. If these were Between £2 and £4 each then I might forgive it but £7 plus delivery for a very cheaply made bit of plastic is a bit silly.

Difficult to get a snug fit
Fits my large bucket ok, but not my narrower ones. Difficult to get a tight fight on anything though, so the whole thing starts to float about with the current produced by plunging your hand into the water. The spacer fins have a habit of coming off, which means you need to dig around a bucket of dirty water to fish it out before you chuck the water down the drain bits and all.

Expensive for this little of plastic, but may be better than nothing.
The clip-on support fins are not well supported and consistently fall off, especially when rinsing out the bucket - superglue may be an answer. Anyhow, I think that this bit of plastic is probably worth no more that £1 or two.A bottom spacer is actually a good for the rinse/wash bucket, so I use two stacked ring spacers, without the fins, in a separate soap rinse bucket.
