The HbA1c blood test for diabetes in the UK is an INDIRECT measure that makes assumptions.
The DIRECT (finger prick) measurement of plasma glucose is definitive but more expensive & difficult, so not recommended for screening for diabetes by the NHS. Peer-reviewed papers in respected journals in the USA have shown some of the mechanisms by which the HbA1c blood test can be inaccurate because of its reliance on assumptions that have been shown not to be valid in some persons.I recommend that anyone told that they are prediabetic check buy the Accutek mobile finger prick system to confirm or find invalid such a diagnosis from the easy & cheap NHS reliance on HbA1c before panicking and test themselves for a couple of weeks in accordance with the instructions.

wash your hands
I got crazy results, until I made sure I had washed the sample area. The 3 month window is a bit small.UPDATE: On the box is an expiry date. The products leaflet does not mention this. On contacting Roche they said that is the complete expiry date. i.e. For full usage needs to be inserted 3 months before that date.

Keeps a great check on your blood sugar !
Really easy to use, so you can monitor your blood sugar levels, which lets you know if you are becoming pre-diabetic. This could fend off stroke, heart attack etc. in later life, so well worth checking ! My wife and I now check daily to judge our progress - great re-assurance. It also gives you the ability to monitor trends, and gives you an average reading for a week, or up to 90 days - brilliant. It will also link to a computer, but to be honest I have never felt the need - the little machine gives you all the information you need right there on the display.

Monitors Your Sugar Levels
It does what it does to the best of its abilityA lot of customers feel cheated by the expiry date. I suggest go to settings on the meter and go to date. Change the year to 2010 or what is the earliest year on your meter and you should be able to access the tests that previously said expired and won’t allow you to take the tests. NOW YOU CAN with the change of year to an earlier year

I've used them for years
I've used these Accu-Chek mobile cassettes for several years. The local health board decided to rationalise the type of materials it would supply, and this meant that they would no longer supply the ones I have been using. Preferring no doubt to supply a noddy version called Aga Matrix, which is in my view a backward step. I refuse to be dictated to by them, so now I have to purchase my materials instead pf having them supplied by the NHS.
