Transcend DrivePro 230 16GB Suction Mount Car Video Recorder
Only used this dash cam for 100 miles but the picture quality is splendid. Will soon be hard wired so battery life won't be important to me although when fully charged is giving about 20 minutes back up which is fine for my needs. The sound quality isn't great which doesn't bother me. Logical and user friendly menu system. On line manual is essential as start up booklet gives little detailed advice. Still so much to find out so this is a very early review but I can say that the quality of the unit and suction mount is excellent.Edit.Bought another 230 for my wife's car and both are now hard wired in and are giving excellent results. Emergency segments are a great idea and if normal recording segments are set to the 5 minute option that means that the emergency segment records 2 and a half minutes each side of the pressing of the red button. Thought this was a clever idea but hope never to have to use it.

Novel toys but actually just rubbish
Very simple to set up and use but, like pretty much all of these low bitrate mpeg video recorders, the recorded image is utterly useless - unless you and everything around you is stationary. DashCams are supposed to be an aid in the event of insurance claims to show that it was someone else behaving stupidly. This necessitates being able to identify the other car. Well, good luck with that on this device. The registration number is just a blurred mush. Utterly useless!

The after sale of this product is non-existant.
Having experience a problem, ie: it was duplicating every segment thus giving me twice the segments I needed. I rang Transcend twice and spoke to their technical department, but they seemed as puzzled as I was. Both times, after spending about 15 minutes talking to them they said they would phone me back. I'm still waiting. This is the second 230 I have purchased, I sent the over one back, because that had the same problem, The reason I brought a Transcend is because I had a 220 before for several years and had no problem with it at all. It seems that upgrading to a 230 it has taken a step back instead of forwards. I'll stick with this one for now, but when it's time to change I will not be getting a Transcend again. Excellent product from Transcend
Excellent product from Transcend. I have one of their earlier models and bought this for my other half. He wanted me to settle for another make for him which was some £60 cheaper but I'm glad I stuck to my resolve. Simple to use and incredibly practical features. I like the that one can set a maximum speed limit - suffice to say, mine beeps away at me more often than not but good as it keeps a check on one's speed. Excellent recording clarity and detail when viewing card on a larger screen.

It works well, though the instructions are scanty; you will need to go online to find these. Image resolution quality is reasonable and it is compact and light. Movie files can be read on a Macbook Pro after transferring. Removal from the screen mounting bracket can be fiddly. As with all such in-car devices, it is advisable for safety reasons to tuck the cable inside the screen and door trim so that these don't trail across the driver.

Constant freezing.
I've had this a couple of months now. The unit will constantly freeze, lock up and I am unable to turn it off. Need to wait for the battery to run out. I've tried all the fixes but without luck. May have to send it back

BEEP BEEP BEEP
Okay if you like beeping noises this is for you - but if you do stop start driving it is loud and intrusive - it is a simple firmware fix and others have complained. It is also over sensitive on the G sensor - even on low it it does a saved file which in Kent is all the time, so all very well having a 128gb card but have of it is taken up with near misses that have not happened.Yes, I have contacted the Techies at Transcend but they only answered with wrong answers.Back to the drawingboard.

Good value
I have the older but wider angle Drivepro 200 in my other car, I'm just as happy with this one. It has a couple of useless gimmicks in the lane keep and collision warnings that I leave turned off. I find this easy to use and never drive anywhere without it on.
