Orico 2.5” HDD Caddy USB3.0, tool-free – Red.This is a simple USB3.0 caddy for a 2.5" SATA III hard drive. A standard 7mm or 9.5mm thick drive locates in the metal backed plastic top piece and slides into the drive-connector of the socketed end.The slide-on/off 'tool free' cover is almost too easy to remove and if it was not for the sticky foam pad to stop the drive rattling about inside the box one might slide it off just by picking it up.Two bits of sticky-back foam are supplied, thicker for 7mm and thinner for 9.5mm. Don’t stick it over the drive’s vent hole.It has the merit of a proper Micro-B USB3 connector and a single half-metre black lead to a USB3 Type A connector for proper compatibility, and so assumes that the internal drive will be taking less than 1 Amp.This caddy works well. On a well endowed but old i5 Dell, H2TestW rated the sustained write speed on the Seagate 1TB I fitted at 100MB/s and the verified read speed at 60MB/s. But of course this will vary with file size and directory accesses.The circuit board and connectors inside the caddy header are neatly made with good soldering, much better than some others I have bought in the past.The indicator LED works as one would expect.Remember that if installing a brand new hard drive, for use with a PC it needs to be initialised before it will be seen by the OS. This should take a minute or so, most of which is diving through the menus and deciding what to call it. In W7P and W10P I use Control Panel/Computer Management/Storage/Disk Management to Initialise, Quick Format, Name it and add an unused Drive letter.I have several SATA III drives used for occasional backup and system image storage, and these little caddies are ideal for keeping them safe.Recommended.

No screws to undo and lose. You slide the case side off, pop your drive in and close it again.It's now ready to plug into the USB slot on any computer with the supplied cable.I've bought a lot of these and never had any problem with them.NOTE: if your drive is unformatted it probably won't appear immediately. You will need to go to Disk Management (or the equivalent for Mac/Linux)

Bought this to replace one that was too tight for a 9.5mm drive; this one fitted perfectly!Pros:- Decent lead length (0.5m)- Plastic cable and enclosure are a lot higher quality than expected. I thought it would be cheap looking and plasticky but everything seems at first glance nice and durable and well made.- Extremely easy to open and install. The cover clicks into place and at first seems a tad loose but this is solved by adding the two foam pads included. Fits like a glove with a 9.5mm drive, not too tight or too loose.Cons- A tad slow with a 2.0 USB port (tested speeds 30.3Mbps write, 34.3Mbps read) but not unusable.

Excellent product. Fitting and removing a drive is easy. The sliding cover holds the drive in place with reassuring rigidity. The cover is slightly more difficult to remove, which is a good thing as you don't want your valuable drive falling out. The best way I have found to remove the cover, with a drive in place, is by holding it with two hands and applying pressure to the clip end of the cover with my thumbs while sliding the cover out of and under the clips. When copying a 100GB video file from my Ninja Blade SSHD drive to my laptop through USB 3.0, the speed was 109MB/second, writing the same file back to the drive was achieved at 40MB/second. I have purchased other drive housings, but sent most back as their closure method puts unnecessary continuous pressure on the drive pins and socket. This housing exerts no perceivable pressure on the drive pins. The supplied cable is 550mm long. This is my second purchase of this product in 12 months, the first enclose is still performing perfectly, I expect I will be buying more of different colours; for blank, in use, and archived drives. Recommended.

After finding myself with yet another excess laptop drive (after upgrading to an SSD), I wanted a quick easy way to make good use of the 1TB HDD I'd removed. These cases fit the bill nicely, and having already owned another one for over 12 months, I knew it was reliable.The case is plastic but well moulded, easy to slide open (I've lost fingernails to other makes!) and the drive access LED clear. USB 3 performance seems fine, though it's less critical in any case as I'm using it for backup rather than as main storage. Kit comes with a 50cm/20inch USB cable. Overall, recommended as a way to make use of old HDD laptop drives (or pair with a new SSD, for a fast and robust - no moving parts, external drive)

It's in good condition and it's a lovely case but I bought it thinking it has the hard drive in it but it's just a CASE.

Na het upgraden van een aantal laptops met een SSD is deze behuizing een uitkomst voor de oude HDD's. HDD's zijn makkelijk in de behuizing te plaatsen (en te wisselen). De behuzing heeft een snelle USB 3 verbinding en de diverse kleuren van de behuizing zijn handig om de schijven uit elkaar te houden. Aanrader.
