Photographing Wildlife in the UK - where and how to take great wildlife photographs

Great little reference book
The details given for all the sites listed are comprehensive and very detailed. I've been to a number of the places already and the information is accurate. Naturally, in a book covering the whole of Britain there are never going to be quite enough sites close to the areas that you want to visit but those included are very good.

This is a great book to complement the technique oriented books that I had previously bought. It gives great details on where to find and how to photograph many different types of wildlife in most regions of the UK. Details on locations, parking, best time to visit are provided and the best techniques described. It will help me plan visits and days out over the coming years. The proof reading leaves something to be desired: the Mull Charters boat (named "Lady Jayne") is mis-spelt as "Lady Jane" after a correct spelling on the previous page. There is a place called the "Isle of White" on which it is possible to see red squirrels! But these are minor. Most of the photos are taken with a 2x extender on a 300mm lens. For the more affordable Canon 100-400mm with a 2x or 1.4x extender, this means losing autofocus. Nonetheless the book shows what can be achieved. Most other technique oriented books can provide the information for most common zoom or telephoto lenses and cameras. There are some gaps in geographical coverage: the South East, much of the Midlands, and North Wales but for most of us there are places easily reached in a couple of hours. On the Isle of Mull description, the author could have added that puffins and other auks are easily reached on the nearby Treshnish Isles and there are whale watching trips from Tobermory. The corncrake can also be seen on Mull and Iona.I have been to some of the locations: Mull, Skomer, Shapwick Heath, Keyhaven, Titchwell. This book will enable me to better plan visits to these and other sites.

A great book but one or two minor shortcomings. Unique in the UK market I feel.
Great book! A little like the old Readers Digest hardbacked books that led you around the British Isles and showed you places to visit with maps and advice. Unlike those books this is a smaller format and here this is a shortcoming. A larger format would have facilitated an easier read and bigger and better maps etc. Despite this I feel Andrew Marshall has done a great job and located a gap in the market where other books had never trod. A little more content would have been useful as unless you travel far and wide (and many wealthier retired photographers do) you may quickly exhaust your local venues. However any book that gets people out photographing our wonderful wildlife and countryside is welcome.A great effort but can the publishers please upsize for the next edition and more spots please.

A unique photo location book for wildlife photographers
Fotovue are really cornering the market with these "photography location" books. This is the fourth one I've bought and like all of them it's a super book and is exactly what I expected. The book identifies locations where you have a fighting chance of spotting interesting animals to put in front of your camera.Be warned though that this is not a technical guide to shooting wildlife. The book has a short "Technique Section" at the end but it's cursory. If that's your goal you should find another book.Though I've given it 5 stars, one problem it shares with all of the Fotovue books is that it doesn't have an index. So for example if you want to find a good location to shoot (say) harvest mice, you can't just look up "harvest mice" in the index. This means you have to browse through the book and hope you can spot what you're after. But it's so well illustrated with so many good photos that this isn't much of an inconvenience. But if the Fotovue editors are reading this: please add an index to your future books!

Photographing Wildlife in the UK
The book came in excellent condition, and arrived early. Very detailed with regards to the locations, all it is missing is photographic layouts when using wireless remote flash units to capture nightlife.

Not as good as the County Books
This might be useful for someone that has no idea what wildlife to find and when and where. Personally I don't see its relevance now, nearly every site in the book is well known and well advertised. I think the author missed a trick here and could have made it better. Note that the published date is 2016.
