Tipping Point: Penghu

A little slower getting started than the first two, but barely
This was a good read. It started slower than the first two but was still packed with action. It keeps with the original story line.

Engaging
Now, if only I can determine the next title in the series. A delightful read, with credible characters. Well done!

Gritty, Detailed Combat Adventure Written By A Pro
I have a serious weakness for modern combat fiction, but an even greater weakness for combat fiction written by a truly knowledgeable veteran who knows how to pace multiple distinct engagements and weave them into one comprehensive, well-written tale, with finger-biting detail. John O'Brien is a master of this artform and I can recommend his Tipping Point series without the slightest hesitation. Had to laugh at his quasi-apology for stretching this trilogy into the farther distance (see the Author's Note). More is better, Sir. Just keep writing! Make it an octology if you want to. Your masterful description of Capt. Blackwood's delivery of a GBU-57 bunker buster on that Chinese-held airstrip, starting on page 278, is exactly the kind of writing which grabs me where I live. Cannot wait for the next installment!

Can't wait for the next one!
Awesome read as always! This book was hard to put down. I felt like I was right in the middle of the action.

Great read (USN Retired)
I'm a retired P3 crewman and I'm very familiar with the tactics and the area of ASW. I read all four books back to back I think there could have been a Fifth one.

Great Story - looking forward to future books
I am impressed with the combat details the author provided . I was in a quite different war but this seems to capture modern warfare well. I especially liked the personal views from all sides of the conflict making the human aspect important and in front. Great characters, well developed. A great writer makes you care about the enemies almost as much as the "good guys".

Future conflicts, contemporary causes.
Very easy read with context provided. Right out of the headlines (if you still read newspapers,) and deftly crafted.

Sorry it ended
This book of the series focuses on the minor island associated with Taiwan. the action is gripping and non-stop. Although the islands are small, it seemed like the fight was as it would be on Taiwan if it comes to that. Both sides never gave an inch. I congratulate the author for a job well done.

Hmm
Fourth book in this series, and I’ve decided to stop reading about halfway through. Why? Well, there’s lots of detail - it’s clear the author has done plenty of research - but that’s mostly it. The tone is pretty one-dimensional throughout. There’s not much juice, to my palate. No emotional development of any characters. Nothing really personal to grab onto, or many people to root for. The character of the President isn’t bad. But in general, the author seems to have put nearly all of his effort into a rather dry blow-by-blow, rote narration of action, and that’s it.Contrast to the Command and Control books by Bruns and Olson, I’ve just started Threat Axis; it’s like going from black and white to colour.TLDR: average - he’s no Tom Clancy, I’m afraid.

Yawner.
Just another prefictable serial formula series with nothing new. Shallow character development and recycled battle sequences. I don't remember the previous books in this series being this bad.

Good, but more of a Fictional historical documentary than a nove
Written for those who dont need to follow the storyline of individual characters.
