Hannibal Rising [Blu-ray]

Good Start for a Serial Killer
I've seen all the Hannibal films - a couple of which are pretty iffy - but I was intrigued by the idea of finding out how he became what he was in later depictions. It kicks off when our "hero" is a mere lad at the end of the last war, and, well, goes downhill from there, morally speaking.I thoroughly enjoyed this film, which was suitably dark as befits the period in general, and the subject and story in particular. You can certainly see why he chose the path he did, and you get to see glimpses of what's to come. A morally nice lad moulded by his circumstances. This makes a good link to the more famous films, though I cringe a little to think they might be tempted to make a link between this and "Silence of the Lambs" - it'd have to be done very well to get the balance right. For that I rather hope they don't bother. This film is well worth the small entrance fee, as it fills in a number of gaps - whilst leaving the inevitable questions unanswered.

Away from the Hannibal triology, this film is pleasing to view
I purposely did not read this forth installment as I personally knew it was just another book to try and keep hold of this failing franchise. As for the film, I decided to go with some trepidation. What I watched was a very good, interesting well made film. Yes as readers, we are reminded that in `Hannibal' Lecter had a sixth digit on his hand, and as a child may have been ridculed and bullied by his peers ? Although this was during the second world war when children were more respectful and understanding for their peers; sadly this is not so in the 21st Century.I digress. I thought the opening scenes were very well made, simlar to those in Saving Private Ryan. When we get to see Lecter in his early 20s my thoughts of Anthony Hopkins soon faded. I personally understand why he followed the path of darkness, and yes, you soon feel sorry for the character and understand his way of killing. No way near as superior as Silence of the Lambs or remake of Red Dragon, but a very good try. I gave 4 stars, as some of the acting, not a lot, but was a little wooden. If you are quite a Liberal viewer in the horror genre, then give this ago. Just be open minded when viewing. If you are expecting levels of Silence of the Lambs then you may become disappointed.

quality
usually don't believe the ratings for movies on here, but this one deserves a high score, very very good, keeps you captivated all the way through. For an insight into what brought hannibal lector to the monster he became, this tells you everything.

Perfect
I loved this film. Everything about it is amazing to me. To see the troubled past of a young Hannibal Lecter and how he gets his Cannibal tendencies and the way he deals with the ones who started him off this gruesome path. The sound is pretty amazing and I’m very particular about sound especially when it comes to movies. I do wish though it had been given the HD treatment as it would have been awesome then. The picture is nicely graded and adds very well to the style of the film.Over all a great Bluray. I wish though the white circle stating it to be the uncut version was a sticker and not part of the cover picture.

Superb!!!
I have always loved Hannibal Lecter films. I have been waiting a long time for this film and I wouldn't be disappointed with this film or any of the films other that have been made. The screenplay was written by Thomas Harris and it couldn't be written by anyone else but the creator of Hannibal Lecter. This film shows how and why Hannibal became a cannibal and what turns a small loving boy into a monster he became. If love horror films and you are thinking of buying this film? DO because you won't be disappointed.

Amazing.
I've been a huge Hannibal fan for years and upon hearing Gaspard Ulliel was going to play a young Hannibal i couldn't wait to get my hands on the movie! Of course i couldn't go to the cinema to see it because i'm under 18 so as soon as it came out on DVD i bought it and i must say i wasn't disappointed at all! Wonderfully directed and perfectly cast this movie will never get old.

Fascinating take on where Hannibal Lecter came from
As a standalone film this was enjoyable. It is the prequel to the films Red Dragon, The Silence of the Lambs, and Hannibal. This one focuses on where the cannibal serial killer Hannibal Lecter came from. It starts out at a crucial circumstance during Childhood that would play a part in this, then it transitions into Hannibal as an eighteen year old. I'm speculating his age as I don't recall it being said or evident. Naturally the great Anthony Hopkins would not play this part as a teenager and into young adulthood. The actor that plays Hannibal in this is Gaspard Ulliel. I haven't personally seen him in anything before this or after it, but he did a fantastic job. He had huge shoes to fill and he knew this for a young actor. You can tell he really studied up on the mannerisms that Anthony Hopkins had embodied. He may not look like Anthony Hopkins, but he captures the eerie mannerisms and way of speaking to the tee. Those that love the Hannibal Lecter films may especially be interested in seeing this if they haven't. I wouldn't put it up there as great as those three films, but it's still a fun ride to take. The only criticisms I mostly had with this was I felt it dragged a bit in his childhood back story, but I understand that it was necessary. I almost felt like it could've been shone in quick flashbacks, which it does throughout the film anyway. That would've been sufficient enough than the long drawn out beginning. Other than that, this was a great film and interesting to see where Hannibal Lecter came from and what made him the killer he became. I don't know how convinced some viewers might be that this is what propelled him, but it's still a good take to watch.Hannibal Lecter is one of those mythological fictitious serial killers that has had people riveted by due to the popularity of The Silence of the Lambs book and film. Hannibal is a man that is advanced, intelligent and classy, but he graphically kills people in the most horrifyingly long drawn out ways to really teach them a lesson. It's a calm deliberate methodical way of killing. And the way he speaks is so frightening, but at the same time what makes him so iconic and loved is that he typically seems to go after antagonists that are either rude or just horrible people of society. Most sane people can get on board with thinking, "Oh that guy had it coming. He was an a-hole, so I'm glad Hannibal got him." In a strange sense he's almost like a vigilante in a way.Even his Aunt who realizes what he's doing is both protective of him, but concerned at the same time. The actress is played by a chinese born actress, Gong Li. She does an incredible job just by the look on her face that you can read it as being both protective and caring for him with grave concern with how far he's going to go until eventually realizing that he's never going to stop. The fact that he's so cultured and intelligent seeing more than most people see makes him a fascinating character to watch. If you're not into graphic scenes, they are far and few between and don't dwell on it. You can turn your head for a second and you'll be fine.
