Stephen Soderbergh directs an all star cast in action thriller Haywire, including mixed martial arts supremo Gina Carano as Mallory Kane, a highly-trained black ops specialist, contracted for hazardous covert missions by the US Government. When her paymaster’s point-man (Ewan McGregor) teams her with fellow agent (Channing Tatum) to extract a Chinese journalist held hostage in a Barcelona safe house, the mission swiftly unravels and she barely escapes with her life. During her next assignment in Dublin, with Irish assassin Paul (Michael Fassbender) Mallory is violently betrayed and pursued across the city by the local police and assorted ruthless hitmen. Now the target of an international manhunt, spearheaded by the CIA official who hired her (Michael Douglas), Mallory realises she can trust no one and is forced to flee across the US from upstate New York to the New Mexico desert. There, she seeks refuge in the home of her ex-soldier father (Bill Paxton), but danger is not far behind her. As she confronts her heavily-armed pursuers, she begins to understand the cause of her betrayal, and the part played by a shadowy Spanish official (Antonio Banderas). Battling with her superiors to uncover the truth behind their deception, she sets out to exact revenge on those that want her dead.

SO MANY STARS SUCH A HORRIBLE MOVIE
As mentioned, this movie had so many stars in it and I normal viewer could have directed a better movie than this, mediocre action scenes, story? Who's relative pushed the girl into acting? I personally like a strong woman with her body type but she is horrible actor. Sorry, she may be lovely in private life, but this was not a movie for her. I watched so many movies and I am a big fan of movies. This was one of the worst action movies that I have seen in a long time. Movies from home production are better than this. Some movies that were produced for a minimum budget were better. I mean i could make a movie like this with a budget of 20k with Barcelona and everything with a holiday in 2 full on days time!!! If this is to raise money for a charity I would change my view. If the stars did not get paid for this movie i would change my view. Otherwise if there would be a 0 star rating, that is what this movie would get.

Marmite
Plot is stale, That's the only negative I have...... Nope that's it.After seeing & reading some of the one & two star reviews I have to question if we saw the same film. It was released in 2012! God Damn took me eight years to see it!! (Thought Micheal Douglass looked a lot better than I remembered from recent pics.)Anyway Gina was superb she dripped with acting talent. her eyes alone could convey any emotion she wanted to.I'm sorry it took me so long to see the movie. So black op agent gets betrayed and travels across the World bent on bloody revenge (Damn wish I thought of that plot line.)All the stars turned in what you expect of them. Gina however was a surprise as I saw her in Deadpool & thought "meh".

Finally an action film that looks and feels real.
Ok, so the plot is hardly original. It's been done to death but usually with completely implausible action scenes where the protagonist can leap from rooftops, get shot, smash through rooftiles, shoots enemies with supersilent guns that makes a barely inaudible pop and has fights that go on and on and on and on and, you get the picture. In this film, the protagonist stops, looks, realises that you can't jump off a roof onto a rotten corrugated shed roof without taking some serious damage. She takes a fall from a reasonable height and gets seriously winded, as you would be. I'm not saying everything is completely realistic but after jumping off a roof or out of a window and freefalling for 3-4 seconds, like they do in your average action movie, the person would fall 45-80 metres (135-240 ft) and hit the ground at 105-140 km/h (65-90mph) you don't get right up from that, ever. Unlike run-of-the mill action movies, like most big budget movies, fights do not last for ages. Unlike run-of-the-mill action films average cops are not stupid and clumsy and easy to evade but experienced, smart, have good local knowlege and are well coordinated. I found it refreshing that in many cases this film respected realism. The acting is neither better or worse than any other films in this genre. If anything it's refreshingly believable. If I can criticise other reviewers I think they are judging the film by the totally unrealistic measures of the usual action films with long drawn-out slick fight scenes, crazy car chases, rooftop escapes, explosions and ridiculous shootouts. This is not that kind of film.

Marmite fighting film
I just gave up! I may be in a minority and feel this film is lacking bit after the first prolonged diner fight I felt the film just draaaaaaged! Yes, great fight choreography but, without genuine peril and stacked odds with a heroine you have no idea how she will survive, it's just ballet with fists. Promising start, tedious execution and I just lost interest.

Really cool action film
This is part of the trend for "retro" action, well exemplified by Soderbergh's own The Limey. The spy is betrayed by her own side and has to avoid being killed before she can seek revenge. Gina Carano perhaps should have become a star because of this, but there was no follow through. The action scenes look realistic, and you can definitely imagine Gina taking a punch and handing one out. The plot is OK, but the plot is just a McGuffin. David Holmes' score is a treasure.

Beautiful minimalist cinematography.
This is some excellent cinematography. Well paced, well shot, well lit. Really quite good acting. These are the sorts of fight scenes I like - not too many jump cuts and wild camera moves, making the action easier to follow, and far more realism. That's it - realism. Everything is highly believable, even the plot doesn't need much suspension of disbelief.I really enjoyed it. It turns out this is the second time I have seen it, and found it very entertaining both times.

A bit mellow but liked the "originality" feel of it
Nice to see the actors doing the fight scenes that seem realistic with less "fake sounds". An average story and pleased with the lead actress' role and stunts. The ambience was sort of like a documentary with a jazzy feel. I think the highlight is the big names on the project working with upcoming actors. A very important step in encouraging the younger ones in the industry. In all, if you like your action film with a slow pace, this may be your thing.

Worst film I've seen in a while
I am astonished by the amount of positive reviews. This film is truly awful, don't be fooled by the cast. Steven Soderbergh should have given up after Ocean's 11.
