Very nicely put together system. The instructions are clear, and the demonstrations work well
Everything worked out of the box. Different to other forms (eg. Cosmos) the connections are much better and thus the results are much more reliable. My kid (6) thoroughly enjoyed, although I certainly had to sit with him in order to help him put things together.

Great fun and incredibly stimulating
This manages to be both fun and educational and it manages it very well indeed. My son loves it. We get to build cool things together like motion sensors, radios, lights, things that fly, beep and buzz while I talk him through the lessons to learned in the handy booklet. My son is 10 years old and this was not a struggle for him, it was simple fun. There are plenty of parts and lots of projects from the simple to the more complex. All the parts feel very well built and are clearly labelled so they can be found as needed. The colours are bright, the lamps, motors and switches all look engaging and feel great in the hand. This may well be the best 'toy' I have ever bought my son and we are both very pleased with it.

Great for little Alva Edison-wannabe's
I'm an electronic illiterate. Nevertheless when I was my kid's age I used to construct 'computer's and robots with dollhouse-toy-electronics; buttons, lamp bells, buttons ect. Which was good fun and probably just enough to prevent me from getting electrocuted when changing light bulbs in later life .These sets give you all that and more, and are simply marvellous in my view. The range of possibilities with such a large set is wide. And being part of a broader Snap-circuit line makes it highly versatile and modular. The set is very well presented in a box that helps organising the parts. It comes with colourful elements each with a different function and includes very clear, coloured instructions of which the basic ones can even be understood by my 5-year old son. I'm not sure about the durability and quality as I've stumbled across some comments about broken electronics parts. & I will update the review if we encounter these issues. Most importantly the set leaves the kids engaged for several hours with a challenging, highly educational activity. At a minimum it will teach my kids much more compared to my limited electronic-autodidact boyhood experience. Our purchase is very timely as well as it turns our out oldest daughter just had an electronics project at school, so she knows the basics and is ready to explore more.I wonder how often this set will be pulled out of the cupboard after the initial excitement wanes and once they are through some of the less-challenging project's - as our kids got quite a variety of toys (too keep them off the Ipads). Even so, it could well that they experiment with this set for years. Though I suspect rather sooner than later my involvement will be required - which will expose dad's woeful electronic skills and knowledge!.We first noticed this set with family. Initially I got a bit confused during the purchase as on Amazon and auction sites there are many comparable and similar looking sets with at least the electronic components looking similar. But this Snap Circuit range seems to be the main UK brand (maybe 'm wrong) and comes with a range of add-on sets available; leaving us with the option to add more at a later stage - there are pretty exciting Snap Circuit sets out there.

Great components, disappointing manual
We have had our set for nearly a year now. The whole idea and components are fantastic - it's great that our five year old can build circuits without any help and he really loves playing with the set. He can follow the less complicated diagrams himself now at five and a half whereas six months ago he struggled, though he still enjoyed building circuits then with help. It's worth being aware if you haven't done much electronics yourself, that because you don't want components damaged by short circuits, you do need to supervise to a certain extent especially if you have a child who likes to go off piste rather than just follow the projects in the book.My main disappointment is the manual - it's just not organised at all sensibly pedagogically. Simpler projects are after more complex similiar ones, multiple new components are introduced at once - you only have to get project 10 to get a circuit with two integrated circuits neither of which have been introduced before for example. It's as though they've asked some university student to come up with as many projects as possible and it feels like a real missed opportunity.Should you get this or the SC-100? The main attractions for us with the extra components have been the variable resistor and the power amplifier integrated circuit which you can use to make an electronic kazoo type thing quite simply. It also has transistors, capacitors and the wherewithal to make a radio (which hasn't worked the couple of times we've tried, probably because we've made a mistake somewhere). For a five year old, I think you're fine with the SC-100 - things like transistors are too complicated at that age. I've found that my son tends to want to make the really complicated circuits in the second manual (with the SC-300 projects) which he needs more help with, can't really understand and often don't work because we've made a mistake - I sometimes wish I had hid it when we first bought the set! For an older child, I think having the transistors and capacitors could be really interesting though.

An amazing piece of kit that can grow well with your child
This was bought for my eldest (who is now 15), when she was small. She loved it and the packaging allowed for it to be played with and stored very well with all the little sections inside. It means my now youngest (5 year old) has began to love playing with it and will have many years to come. The parts themselves still look brand new even though they have been played with a lot.A purchase I love and really recommend to other parents. Having the book to help with 100s of different circuits is wonderful.

This is a find!
The Elenco Snap Circuits SC-300 is an awesome find - perfect for any child that loves to know how things work. Our 6 and 8 year old children are totally engaged in building the many projects - a radio that works, lights that flash, sounds, and so much more. They can follow the directions, the parts are sturdy and go together and come apart easily, and everything works! The quality is excellent, the projects interesting and educational, and the variety of what can be done amazing. Definitely recommend!

excellent educational toy
Excellent toy. I strongly recommend it. You need also an introduction book on electronics to fully appreciate this fun and educational toy. I bought also this book: Make: Electronics (Charles Platt) - 2nd Edition. I am using them to teach some basic concepts to my 7 years old son.

excellent produit
