Autopen Classic (1-21 Units) Insulin Delivery Pen

Anyone who uses porcine insulin should get themselves one of these. Clicks help to dial in the correct dose and it is a solid well built unit that I find ideal. Recommended.

I've been using this insulin pen for years now but it's not as good as previous ones I've had in the past by different companies. The pen comes with instructions and a soft material pocket to hold the pen which has velco fastening to keep the pen safe. There are actually two compartments, one which fully closes which can store needles for example and one with a small Velcro fastening for the pen. This holder is good and compact but it's not the best as I've sometimes lost the needles in my bad.The pen is easy to set up and use ones you know how but I've had problems with this pen since using and am already on my third green pen. These pens used to come in different colours, there was a blue (I think) colour for a kids pen and they also had a white/clear coloured one. I still have this one and so luckily I can tell my two insulins apart, but now they only have a green colour so the first negative is that you could mix up your insulins if you don't put a sticker on one of them.The green pen has it's own problem too and that's with the numbers of the units which are on the end of the pen which you look at to set the pen to the correct dose. The green pen (and I only have this problem with the green pen) has units/numbers printed in a silvery kind of colour. This ink rubs off as you use the pen and after a few weeks or months you can no longer see them clearly. Luckily the plastic under the numbers is shiny verses the matt effect on the rest of the pen, but I keep finding I have to inject next to a bright light or else I can't see the numbers properly. Every single green pen I've had has this problem and it's terrible as visually impaired people will struggle to see the numbers at all!There's nothing else really wrong with the pen. It has a handy push button for the injecting that's on the side so you don't need a wide hand to inject (some older pens had you pushing the end of the pen which was hard with small hands). But there's one thing that I find annoying that's not included in this pen although some old novopens always had this feature: The ability to cancel a dose.Sometimes I've set the dose too high by accident on the pen, this can be due to not seeing the numbers properly or just being a bit fuzzy headed at the time, but sometimes it happens and I want to cancel the dose I've set. With some old novopens (don't know about modern ones) this was possible by pulling two pars of the pen apart slightly and it let you cancel the dose, but his own mumford one doesn't have that feature and so if you over set the dosage you have to inject it out into a bin or something before being able to set a new dose. It's just a waste of insulin which also is annoying for me (I hate the smell of insulin). It's not a big deal but having made mistakes a few times when I've had high sugar it's something I wish the makers thought about adding to the pen.Apart from that injecting is easy enough. It's an okay pen, but it could be better.

neat, tidy, very effective insulin delivery - easy to refill with vials; easy to change needles; delivery catch on side so very easy to automatically inject insulin even when one handed.down side -a) No add-on pen top available to indicate when you have last done your injection (surprisingly enough, this is fairly easily done if a long term diabetic and multi-tasking!).b) the 21 unit pen is only available green in colour and unless very careful difficult to differentiate between day time and over night insulin pens. need to use rubber bands or coloured sellotape to identify sometimes. also the green is a bit naff - how about a nice smart black one for day time to put in handbag pleaseotherwise I would have given 100% - have used one for years but dont know why no nice ones now on market - once upon a time we even had a stainless steel model!!!
