Is this an insecticide or just diatomaceous earth labeled as mite killer

Simply apply the powder directly from the shaker over the affected areas of the bird. Contains p-menthane-38-diol. Use in conjunction with Poultry Louse Powder.

What’s the most effective way to apply this to a chicken? How do you get it to go on skin rather than feathers?

Have someone hold the chicken, and working segmentally push up and hold up the feathers and apply where you can see skin and the fine baby feathers. (Rather like applying anti-flea drops to cats). Work up the body from the tail, just pushing up a row of feathers and powdering. Don't forget to lift up each wing and put powder there by hand though, as well as on top of wing. When you release her, hen will shake some of the powder off but what remains should be effective. Don't forget to treat the chicken house. Throw out all straw, brush or vacuum out dust & debris, wash down with bleached hot water, air all day, when dry sprinkle Diatomaceous Earth in hen house, esp. corners.
