Love this game!
Impressions after one full game: Dominant Species is actually a highly tactical game which doesn't easily forgive stupid mistakes. There are so many approaches to the game – be it actively killing your rivals through competition, undermining them to extinction by desolating their natural resources or just continually displacing them through glaciation – and a range of different species with different perks that the resulting game is a great experience. My friends have commented on the lack of 'active backstabbing' in the game despite half of everything you do resulting in your opponents' species being displaced/killed. I also love the feeling of the box - 2kg in such a compact box screams quality to me!

It’s a VERY strategic game and I think it would require no small amount of patience to be able to feel like you really understoo
We’ve played this game 4 or 5 times, I think. The first time (like many games) is a bit overwhelming because of the amount of things you can do. Even after a few games it’s still very hard to get a sense of how you are doing in the game as in the final round when tiles are scored it can change things dramatically. There are SO many ways to effectively progress it’s very tricky keeping an eye on them all. Also, a game tends to last at least 3 hours, so you have to be prepared for that.On the plus side, the board, pieces & concept are all very well thought out and produced. It’s a VERY strategic game and I think it would require no small amount of patience to be able to feel like you really understood where all the strategies lie. For some (my wife included), it’s a bit much, compared to other games. But with the right group of people it could become very interesting.

So much in the box
The parts involved are all wood and well made, understandable now why it cost so much.
