Exceptional. I am stunned by Sam Baker
I cant put into words how much I love this album. I just don't know how. It is so so special. I loved all his other albums as well and this is slightly different from the others - probably less introspective perhaps. But still sparse and poetic in its simplicity and power. I'm not really a Country fan as such, but clearly I must like it cos I love Sam's stuff. What I think I like about this is the simplicity, uncomplicated space and minimal instruments. Less is more. Yeah, I love it.Sometimes it makes me think of Leonard Cohen and sometimes a bit of John Prine, but mostly just Sam Baker.I always feel grateful that I heard of Sam Baker and that's thanks to Bob Harris. This is a gem.

So much from a sparse palette
I think this even beats Pretty World. Songs that grow, great arrangements and totally affecting lyrics about ordinary people. All this delivered in Sam Baker's trademark Laconic drawl. An original talent that at times conjures, Jacques Brel, The Handsome Family and unplugged Richard Thompson. Great songs with real emotion.

Another Brilliant Album
Another brilliant album from Sam. If you like his work you should have this and if it is new to you start here and work back. Although he is unlike anybody else the stories remind me of the work of Guy Clark and the prose reminds me of Hemmingway ,with not one extra word beyond what is absolutely necessary. Just brilliant Sam ,thank you very much.

Beautiful exquisite sublime
Beautiful exquisite sublime. I run out of overused superlatives when talking about Sam Baker. He has a seriously adept way with words and the music is lovely too.

Sam sings from the heart.
Sam Baker can move me with so few words. He distils emotions so that every word and inflection becomes supercharged. I can't wait to hear him sing songs from "Grace" live.

A really good album
I was a little unsure how this would compare to the Mercy trilogy. However, it's a really good album - the pictures that Sam Baker paints are wonderful little snapshots of lives.
