Great books
Reading these to my 3 year old and she is really getting in to them and as someone who read them as a child i am enjoying them again too.Yes some of the writing does seem old fashioned or out of date but they still capture a childs imagination and encourage it. We now a faraway tree in our town according to my child and she loves drawing pictures of Joe, Beth and Frannie. At bedtime she gets the book and likes to hear of the adventures with Moonface, Silky and Saucepan Man and we have to read at least a chapter.Would definetely recommend. Our family have all read them from my dad at school in the 50s to me in the 70s my sister in the 80s my neice in the 00s and now my daughter at 3. I am sure she will enjoy reading them herself when she is older.

Takes you back to Childhood memories
I have really enjoyed reading this, as everyone has said it takes you back to reading this as a child. I have lost both my parents now and I'm still under 40 so its like keeping my mums memories alive even more, recalling her reading this to me. Hopefully when my dads house is sold I will be able to retrieve my original books. This is how you learnt to read when I was growing up, there was no computers and I found so much pleasure in going into the fantasy lands and imagining your own idea of how the characters look.I wouldn't know without getting hold of my originals if chapters are missing but that doesn't bother me, I am just so happy to have this on my kindle and anytime I want to escape on a bus journey I just start reading this.My next purchase will be the Flyaway Chair.

Remains a great story for children
Rereading this set of magical tales was a pleasant return to childhood. Although the name changes grated on me and some of the language also sounded as though it had been changed - 'Wow', would that be 1950s language? - the stories are a pleasant mix of excitement, danger, children winning against unpleasant adults and sheer magic and good times. There is enough fun to counteract the possible rebellion from modern readers against the moral imperatives, but the latter are not really onerous and might assist a parent in need. For example, iIf these children do some housework, why not you? On the other hand, what can we offer to measure up against a magic faraway tree and enchanted wood? Perhaps only a rereading for children who have enjoyed the stories the first time. Unlike other of Byton's works there is little apparent racism and even the sexism is muted. Often the girls are depicted as having good ideas that are succesfully executed by all the children. Jo, the boy, is clearly older so perhaps his taking charge is not based on gendr alone. At least the innovative reader to young children can mould the stories to fit into a modern landscape.

returning to the faraway tree
(This review is by Joolz, Josh's wife.)I loved Enid Blyton books as a kid & their magic remains as potent as ever. I just finished reading 'the Enchanted Wood' to our 4 year old , Lilith, a chapter (sometimes two) a night, & she loves it as much as I did. Unlike so many kids books on the market, these stories are a pleasure for an adult to read too. It takes about 10 minutes to read a chapter aloud, & there hasn't been one night when she didn't ask for more! We have the 'Wishing Chair' stories on order too- they were my favourite of all & I can't wait to revisit them. Anyone who only knows Enid Blyton as the creator of Noddy is in for a delightful surprise! Suitable to read to smaller kids, but written intelligently enough that they will want to re-read the stories themselves as they get older. (Suggested age 4+)

Favourite childhood books
My favourite book as a child was the Magic Faraway Tree so delighted to find these for my great niece. I wasn’t familiar with the others in the series and as I haven’t read them again I can’t comment on how they measure up. Also, I am aware the Enid Blyton’s books are perhaps dated and at times racist/classist but from memory The Magic Faraway Tree avoided the pitfalls of some of her other books. If you know a child who can still enjoy old-fashioned magic/ fantasy then these books should fit the bill. For a younger child (my niece was 6a t the time) you would probably need to read these to her/ him but a good reader by 8 should manage.

A joy to read to your child.
I remember reading this as a child and loving the imaginative world portrayed. Though I was nearly put off by the reviewers saying it had been ruined by being political correctness. Fanny is now Frannie for example. I think they are misguided and should worry about something more important! This book is an absolute gem and utterly refreshing after same old same old kids books.I read it to our 3.5 year old and she (almost) couldn't wait for bedtime. Highly recommend.

Professionalism and efficiency
I first read this book when I was 8 and living in Australia. In Greece, where I am currently living, it's impossible to find it in English. Thanks to Amazon everything is possible!

The Queen of adventure writing!
This collection by Enid Blyton is absolutely enchanting. Each chapter is a complete adventure which makes it perfect for bedtime, and my 4 year old insisted on a chapter every day, often asking for more. There are small black ink illustrations in this edition but Book 2 and 3 have been abridged and therefore are lacking many illustrations. Overall, an excellent read by the queen of adventure writing, sure to inspire young imaginations. The book shipped quickly.
