SR Control DJ Serato

I love my new decks! They are very high quality and have a load of really fun and easy to use remix/effects options. I feel as though my old Hercules £70 decks were now holding me back, as it is so much more easy and fun to professionally mix my tracks. I find Serato a welcome change to virtual DJ; it is intuitive, not overly complex, but provides loads of extra features I never knew I needed (EG. 8 cue points and being able to label them). Highly recommend, even if my girlfriend wasn't happy I spent £450 on what she considers a 'toy' haha. - Callum

No phono input so couldn’t use a mixer for my vinyl decks.

Good little 2 Channel controller ideal for the bedroom mixer or small parties, connect it to your pc/ laptop and download the upto date software from Serato website and make sure your music is in mp3 format and not wma Window media player as it won't play it so itunes is the best way as in mp3. You can't go wrong with a Pioneer.

Buyer Beware.... This is an excellent controller....when it works. There are known faults with this system. The sound card (audio output) has completely failed on me when DJing in clubs. I've upgraded the firmware (as Pioneer did a "fix") but the controller just isn't reliable. It's a shame, because overall I'd say it is the most intuitive and well laid out controller out. But unfortunately I'm selling mine and getting a different brand. If your a home DJ who has no intention of using this in a nightclub, go for it. If you do want to play clubs (with this), don't put your reputation at risk.

Brilliant piece of kit but don't buy it at this price its only £499 Everywhere else

Ich habe in den 90ern jahrelang nebenbei als DJ gearbeitet und nach einer etwas längeren Pause *hust* noch einmal Lust bekommen, etwas zu "spielen". Als Einstieg zum Herumprobieren gab's zunächst den Numark MixTrack Pro 3 und ich dachte schon, das Teil wäre gut. Da ich aber Pioneer-Geräte noch aus der CD-Ära kenne, wurde ich neugierig, was man vom Platzhirschen für's Geld bekommt. Eigentlich sollte es der DDJ-RB werden, der sich in etwa in der Preisregion des Numark bewegt (aktuell um die 250 Euronen). Nach dem Studium mehrerer Testberichte habe ich mich dann aber entschlossen, etwas mehr zu investieren. Und es hat sich gelohnt, etwas mehr als das Doppelte auszugeben. Meine Herren, macht das Spaß mit dem Teil! Der SR ist trotz Kunststoffgehäuse im Vergleich zum Numark eine ganz andere Hausnummer, was die Stabilität angeht. Das gilt nicht nur für das Gehäuse. Auch sämtliche Bedienelemente inclusive der Jogs sitzen irgendwie besser. Man hat einfach nicht das Gefühl, dass irgend ein Teil abbrechen könnte. Ich lenke das Augenmerk in diesem Zusammenhang auf die dusseligen Soft-Touch-Regler des MixTrack und anderer Controller. Im ersten Moment ganz schick - nur sind die eben nicht so zuverlässig wie richtige Drehregler. Der Workflow ist generell durchdacht und die Bedienung erschließt sich fast komplett ohne Bedienungsanleitung. Die Klangqualität ist super, es gibt einen ordentlichen Master-Ausgang (wenn auch "nur" via Klinke statt XLR), die Effekte lassen sich genial steuern und besonders die Jogs reagieren völlig ohne Verzögerung. Pioneer eben, wie ich es aus den Clubs von früher kenne. Den restlichen Funktionsumfang des Gerätes lasse ich hier bewusst weg, ich möchte ja schließlich keinen Roman schreiben und man sich kann das alles auf YouTube wunderbar im praktischen Betrieb ansehen. Für viele DJ's vielleicht auch ganz interessant: Nicht nur, dass eine Vollversion von Serato DJ mit allem Effekte-Zip-und-Zap beiliegt statt der oft beigelegten "beschnittenen" Intro-Variante - frühere Versionen von Serato unterstützen den DDJ-SR und laufen auf älteren Mac-Systemen (getestet habe ich das mit Mac OS 10.6.8, laut Übersicht müsste es ab 10.5. funktionieren). Wer also einen älteren Mac nutzt bzw. wie ich als Backup bereitstehen hat, findet hier nicht allzu viele Alternativen. Von Windows-Anwendern verlangt Serato DJ mindestens Win 7 und ich habe das ganze spaßeshalber mit einem alten DualCore 2 mit 1,8 GHz ausprobiert. Läuft einwandfrei. Fazit: Ich kann nur empfehlen, nicht an der falschen Ecke zu sparen und - nichts gegen preiswerte Controller - bei ernsthaftem Interesse oder bei geplantem gewerblichen Einsatz etwas mehr Geld in die Hand zu nehmen. Es mag sicher noch wesentlich professionellere Werkzeuge geben aber in der Preisklasse unter 1.000 Euro sollte der geneigte Interessent den DDj-SR ganz oben auf der Checkliste haben.
