AN EXCEPTIONAL ACHIEVEMENT
This is an outstanding series which does full justice to the book upon which it is based. It is exceptionally long - running to some 74 episodes in all, and not for one instant is it boring or unbelievable. The characters are splendidly cast, none of which I have ever seen before. Perhaps that is not surprising since it is a Colombian production with, I believe, a Colombian cast. This is not the sort of production with which most of us have become accustomed to seeing from HBO, Showtime etc., since it is less "polished" are altogether more basic in its production values. Don't, however, let that put you off, since the storyline, much of it true, is really hair-raising, and never lets up for an instant.Of course not all is perfect in a imperfect world - and in this series things are rather let down at times by examples of painful overacting so typical of the South American "culebrón" (soap opera) style of acting. This is particularly so with some of the actresses, who would be better suited to silent movie roles beside the likes of Rudolf Valentino. Still, this is a minor quibble compared to the constant pace and interest that this remarkable series manages to achieve. In any case this is more than compensated for by the fantastic performances of the protagonist and the whole Medellin Cartel. The direction is generally very taught, although sometimes lapsing into scenes of maudlin melodrama when funerals beckon. There is excellent use of real life footage intercut with the proceedings which provides a marvelous sense of authenticity.Obviously this is not a series for everyone, particularly for those sensitive to the depiction of violence, of which there is, naturally, an awful lot. It has at times a semi-documentary feel to it, and for those who are interested in in the narco scene, I doubt that this could be better done than it has in this extraordinary series.

Impactante
Una cobertura periodística interesante de la vida y trayectoria de Pablo Escobar. Buena lectura, lo recomiendo. La versión televisiva también fue muy bien hecha basada en este libro.
