Brain Fog, Fatigue, Headache, Breathless, Palpitations...
After taking up running (approximately 15-30km a week) since the March lockdown was initiated, I found myself getting extremely tired and run down. Being an NHS front liner and given our current work demands, I assumed this to be work stress and played it down. In addition to this, I am a blood donor and I donated a pint in July. After getting a cold after a 10km run three weeks ago I found myself struggling to recovery and found simple tasks difficult to complete. This was accompanied with shortness of breath climbing up stairs, and minor spontaneous palpitations. I got my ferritin tested via a home service supplied by Superdrug which returned low, and hence I immediately started treatment with oral ferrous fumarate tablets (available OTC).My regime is as follows:10ml TWICE daily of Floradix TWICE daily (with orange juice)One Tablet with of Ferrous Fumarate before bed with a satsuma (discuss this with your pharmacist before doing this)Increase my dietary iron to 8mg dailyWithin 4 days I feel much better, and I haven’t felt like this is in years.I will continue this regime for at least a month and withdraw the ferrous fumarate completely once my bloods are stable) and continue floradix lifelong.Btw - Iron deficiency can happen to athletic men (not just women) so please do not mistake iron deficiency with “overdoing it” as you could harm yourself. Just remember if you are active your body has a higher oxygen demand, needing more myoglobin/haemoglobin and hence even if your ferritin is in range you need to aim to be on the upper limit. Also “footstrike hemolysis” is common and hence puts runners at higher risk.

Didn’t work for me!
I was told in pregnancy at 24 weeks that needed to up my iron intake and given iron tablets to take. After trying them for a few weeks and managing some of the unpleasant side effects, I was recommended trying Floradix by a family member. I took this religiously twice a day and half an hour before food and no time near any decaf tea. Yet recently I went for my 30 week midwife appointment only to find out that my iron levels had not improved at all (they’d actually gone down). This was particularly disappointing as alongside taking the flurodix , I had been eating more red meat and iron rich foods. So, back onto the horrible iron tablets for the final stretch of pregnancy and more iron rich food for me!Thought I would share my experience to balance out the reviews as it does seem to sound like a cure all when it reality it doesn’t work for everyone.

Used several times but product information in Dutch
Great product and i had no problems previous. However there is no English language information on the latest delivery.People with coeliac disease and other gluten intolerances be wary as this product contains wheat germ extract. You have to get the ones marked gluten free on the box.

pleasant aroma
The media could not be loaded. Glass bottle, 250g, there is a measuring cup, liquid like tea, with a pleasant sourness, does not have a sugary sweet taste. I used to take several types of syrups to raise ferritin and they all tasted terrible to the point of nausea. I liked this product right away. Easy and pleasant to drink. I definitely recommend.
