information on placemats is INCORRECT and WRONG
This is a set of Painless Learning placemats on weights and measures. BOTH of them gave me GREAT PAINS. One is US weights and measures and one is metric. The US placemat as a section for "weight/mass" which includes ounces and pounds. I found this very upsetting. Neither ounces nor pounds is a measure of mass. They are weight. On the metric placemat, there is a section called "gram" "I can measure the weight of things." INCORRECT. A gram is NOT a measure of weight. It is a measure of mass. I am constantly amazed at how many people don't understand this distinction, and now I see why - teachers teach this way in school (Yes I had a teacher who once asked how many kilograms one would weigh on the moon if one weighed X kg on earth - and expected the answer to be smaller) and "painless learning" placemats also feature this incorrect statement. The correct measurement for weight in the metric system is a Newton, not a gram. Now, it is true that on earth a gram will always weigh about .035 ounces and therefore you can switch back and forth pretty easily. However, one really should understand that "weight" has to do with gravity and "mass" has to do with the amount of matter (how much "stuff" not how much the gravitational pull of the earth pulls on that "stuff"). Therefore, an object that has a mass of a kilogram (or gram) on earth will still have a mass of a kilogram (or gram) on the moon, for the *amount of matter* has not changed. However, an object that weighs one pound on earth will weigh only about 2.6 ounces on the moon, because the moon pulls less on the object (picture those astronauts bouncing around - they didn't suddenly lose atoms because they went to the moon, they simply aren't pulled down to the surface as hard).I am extremely disappointed that these placemats continue to perpetuate the misconception that mass and weight are the same thing.I am returning these and will be contacting the company, I am so disappointed.

Terrible Word Choices
Terrible word choices: thug, flask, gun, thermometer? Whoever designed these mats should know that these are not sound educational word choices. Disappointed.

What a genius idea!
This is one of the product that you want to have on the breakfast or dining table if you have kids at home. Kids like to learn and remember what they learn, only when they are in mood. This product helps as it's in front of them all the time. Love the product and it's collections that you can buy based on the age. It's plastic, so be careful not to place hot stuffs on them.

Just keep on learning.
Fine, smooth, easy transaction. Great educational placemats. Just wipe off anything that grimes them up. Hope they’re as durable & sturdy as they seem. Thanks.

educational
I like these since they are educational and yet entertaining. My only complaint is that they are not non-slip. They are plastic/laminated, so they slip on the table and I need to put something underneath them to keep them in place.
