I love the dummie books, I just wish they had a different name.
I love the dummie books, I just wish it had a different name so I could just the whole book to clients. It helped me explain certain aspects of new construction to clients without talking over their heads.

Want to build.
I don't like - a title - with "dummies" in it. But I do like the book. It gives step by step information in a lay person's mode of understanding. As a single woman wanting to have my own home build - this book will give me more than enough information to speak "the language" of the builder. This book will vanquish the "dummy" in you.

Great book to help you get organized for the process and confidence dealing with the banker.
I'm a middle aged female that grew up in a household of male construction workers. Going into this book I understood the construction process of who does what, why they do it, and whose responsible for doing it... However, I had no clue as to how to execute the process or how to go about looking the banker in the eyes and being confident that I'm asking the right questions. I found this book to extremely helpful for my needs. After reading this book, making a bullet list of questions, I left the bank being able to contract my own modest home without having to hire someone to contract it for me.I did not give the book the full 5 star rating because I feel if you're green to the construction business, you'd need another book that would go into details about how to do the construction itself.

Great book, very detailed and in depth
Great book, very detailed and in depth! I’m about 3-4 years out from building a new home on a lot. This book has given me valuable insight into the planning stages and potential pitfalls! A must for anyone looking to build a home!!

Needs to be updated, but still helpful
Buyer beware: this book was written in 2005. Which if you're old like me wasn't long ago, or so I thought. The book refrences two banks that collapsed in 2008 refering to them as good banks because of their easy approval process; probably why they collapsed. It also recommends buying a PDA to help keep track of your project's timeline, and provides very detailed steps on how to use Google to search for images and websites. However, apart from the trip down memory lane there are some useful tidbits to keep in mind. I wouldn't say it's not worth the $12, but if you're looking for banking advice this book will not be overally helpful due to changes made by banks since the housing bubble in 2008.

A very comprehensive guide to building you own home.
An excellent and very comprehensive guide on every aspect of building your own home. I suspect this could even be used by the more experienced builders to simply check and see if they have left anything out. Thank you for writing it.

building your own home for dummies
the copy I received was printed in 2005 , before the financial meltdown of 08 / 09. of the financial options.. I wonder if some of the financial options / suggestions would still be the same in a latter publications.I wouldn't think so.
