Model metal is the best metal for casting miniatures as it requires less heat to melt and pour and gives very fine detail easily. This package contains 3 bars of casting metal suitable for Prince August rubber moulds. These are sold loose in a padded envelope. It is an alloy of lead, tin and bismuth. A casting temperature of 300 to 320 degrees Celsius is required before pouring liquid metal into any mould. Any cooker should be able to achieve that temperature. It melts at about 140 degrees Celsius. The difference between the melting and casting temperatures is required to let the metal fill the mould before it solidifies again. Never use water to cool metal for any reason. Always use a dry warm mould. Bend and break bar with your hands into pieces and melt in a steel ladle over a hotplate or other evenly heated surface. Each bar/ingot has approximately 120 to 125 grams of metal. Metal can be remelted easily to reuse. Do not mix alloys as results are unpredictable.
