Do not ignore this product.
When I found this product I was somewhat pessimistic that this Jigsaw was to good to be true. Having not heard of GMC previously and their description of all the functions that it offered seemed to be surprising for the price range compared to more well known brands.Having gone backwards and forward looking at more expensive Jigsaws I kept returning to this item. It's look gave me the impression that it would be comfortable to use and if the functions that they stated were okay it was a piece of kit worth having for the price. When it arrived I left it in its packaging and dumped it into my workshop as it was coming up to Christmas. Well all I can say that it was worth the wait. After reading the instructions which were easy to understand it now came to the test to see what it could do and to its handling. To my amazement its handling surpassed itself and you can easily vary its speed while still maintaining a cutting action. The final test was could you see the cutting line? You Can. The blade is not obscured and you have little build up of sawdust. From my own point of view it is a great time saver not to have to do a lot of setting up to cut a 100cm straight line as I have to do with my four other saws which are far more expensive. Finally, all I can say is that it is well worth the price and would be a good first time purchase for someone new to woodwork or DIY.

Solid and efficient with very useful laser guide.
Delivered very promptly after ordering, there was a fault with the blade holder which was set at an angle and sent the jigsaw off on a path of its own choosing. I returned it and requested a replacement. 5 stars to Amazon who made that very easy indeed and the very next day my replacement arrived. This is a very solid and efficient jigsaw, albeit for the DIY market rather than professional but I would recommend it to anyone seeking a new or first time purchase of this type of power tool. The laser guide is invaluable and the variable speed and settings will make any job easy. The base-plate angle setting could be a little less clunky and for that reason I docked a star but I am very happy with this tool and will make good use of it in the years to come (or until the missus stops ordering me to design and build 'useful' accessories for the house)

good for new diy enthusiasts
Just received this and spent the bank holiday weekend playing with it. absolutely pleased by the tool itself. it's sturdy, seems well built and definitely does the job. i was utterly annoyed by the manual. it's rubbish and useless. luckily there is a video on youtube that gives the rundown on how to operate it that is very clear and easy to follow.now for the pros:very controllable and easy to use and change blades, the different speeds make it way easier to move around and follow narrow paths.against:i think that the base plate is a bit too loose and the adjusting mechanism is not very handy (better than the video one btw) to tighten

Great saw - with one caveat
As per most other reviews, I found the saw to be both powerful and accurate. Build quality is great at the price point and the on-board blade storage, whilst not essential is potentially useful. However, just one small niggle with this (and, in fairness lots of other power tools from manufacturers including Bosch, Ryobi, Erbauer etc) is that you might struggle with it a bit if you are left handed. Why? Because the thumb operated safety release on the handle is set-up for righties rather than lefties. Whilst I'm a rightie, depending on the cut needed/working position, I do occasionally use my left paw to hold tools. I noticed the same thing with a GMC planer that I bought but, that was not enough to put me off from buying a GMC jigsaw. If you can overcome that one minor issue (if your dominant hand is the left or, like me, occasionally use it) then I don't think you will be disappointed.

Good all rounder
I bought this after messing around with very cheap jigsaws this little beauty is a revelation. Powerful accurate cutting with useful laser guide it works a treat. Its not a professional standard tool but would certainly be first choice for serious DIY er like me. Used it several times jobs like shaving sliver off bottom of door dead easy powerful motor chops straight through it, all in all good buy at this price.

Not fit for purpose
I bought this from Amazon's own shop where it was advertised as returned/refurbished and sold at a reduced rate but described as in perfect working order. When I first got it it was obvious that it had been used but did appear in good condition although none of the GMC paperwork (apart from the instruction manual) was with it so I can only guess at the guarantee status once the deadline for returning it to Amazon ran out. When I tried it it did indeed seem to be working correctly however when I began to use it to make important cuts I found that it kept crabbing across the work. I then found that the blade holder did not keep it straight but at an angle of approx 20 degrees from the straight ahead. I can only speculate that this was probably the reason why it had been previously returned but not rectified by Amazon before reselling. No problems returning the item to Amazon.
