Cake-tasticly done!
For my daughter's first birthday cake, I ordered a cake from a bakery using a picture from one of their assorted display books. Oddly enough I expected the cake to look like the picture. :O Imagine my surprise on the day of the big event when my husband brought home the cake, and it did not look like the picture and was missing half the decorations??!!?? I called the bakery let them know the problem, not only have they spelled my daughter's name incorrectly they also forgot all the decorations that belonged on the cake. We had guests arriving and I did not have time to go back over. They sent someone to our house, but the cake still never looked like the picture. On that day I vowed to learn how to make cakes for my daughter. I then took three levels of Wilton cake decorating classes to learn and understand the basics cake decorating. I remember my grandmother and aunt making cakes and flowers with icing and was always so amazed. Now I could make them too! Maybe not as good as theirs, but it was a start. With time and practice I made progress as I made the cakes match the birthday or holiday theme using, Buttercream frosting, royal icing, and color flow....color flow became my favorite....but still I shied away from both Fondant and Gumpaste.I used to love making the 'perfect' themed cakes for my daughter when she was younger....then life throws things at you and it's not that the passion fades, but that the opportunity and life prevent it. It's been a while now, and it's by chance that I came across Yolanda's YouTube channel. I watched a few episodes and was excited to see all the wonderful cake creations she was making using Fondant (a medium to this day I have never tried).I found this book to be well organized, with lots of great detail, well-written and edited, and lots of appropriately supported images. I enjoyed the quick stories that went with each of the cakes as they were presented. I loved the three chapter buildup from easy to medium to most difficult of cakes to create. The tools and supplies section, as well as conversion for recipes, were easy to locate and follow.I no longer consider myself a beginner, but it has been a while so I'm out of practice. In addition I have always feared trying to work with Fondant or gumpaste, which is why I decided to purchase this book. I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in doing a themed or artistically modeled cake.

Best cake Ive ever had!!
I was so excited to get this book. I haven't been a fan for long but when I stumbled upon Yolanda and HTCI I immediately feel in love and became inspired. My husband and I cleared our evening so we test out the ultimate chocolate cake recipe and the Italian meringue buttercream. The cake was so moist and delicious and was so easy to make. I was terrified of the sugar syrup for the meringue but the book laid it out so easily and the instructions were simple enough that my half batch turned out perfect. I've never had such wonderful buttercream before!I'm looking forward digging into the rest of the recipes. Thank you so much Yolanda for such a wonderful book and for being so fun and inspiring!!

Amazing cakes for the home baker
I adore Yolanda's How to Cake It YouTube channel. I pre-ordered the minute I watched her video announcing the release of a cookbook. I am so pleased with the book. The designs are amazing yet approachable. It is really unique how each recipe is broken down in time steps, so you know what to get done when on the most complicated cakes. The images are beautiful and the cakes are unreal. I can't decide if I like the caramel apple cake or the watermelon cake (Walter!) the best.I recently used the chocolate cake recipe in the book and it was the best I've ever had. I made a cake with candy in the layers like the one Yo made on her YouTube channel.

Clean Beautiful Work - Easy to Follow - Fondant Heavy
This is an excellent book for both ideas and instructions. The pictures show extremely clean work with sharp edges. The recipes are pretty good too. The one thing to note however is that the projects are extremely fondant heavy. The pros to that is that it is easier to create beautiful, clean pieces with sharp edges but the con is no one enjoys eating fondant. I do prefer decorations that people enjoy eating. Other mediums do tend to be harder to work with and harder to create these pretty pieces, especially for the amature home cook.

She did a amazing job breaking stuff down
The media could not be loaded.  I will give it a four because I expected a bit more of this book. It is a five star book for beginners. She did a amazing job breaking stuff down. But I expected a lot more as in detailed amazing cakes. This book is literally just for beginners. I’m happy I still got myself a copy because I am a fan! But I hope and can’t wait for her to make a challenging book for more advanced cake decorators that follow her and are a huge fan.

Content is good but the book came damaged :(
The book was wrapped in plastic but that plastic was ripped open & many pages have been bent , folded & torn. This is ridiculous.

Frustrating measurements, not explained!
Very frustrating that the book only used cups so had to use a conversion table. She also then says recipes need a 1 or 2 pound mix, but none of her mixtures/recipes stated how much they made in total, so this is completely confusing!

Lovely book
Brilliant book, well written, photography is excellent. Many inspiring projects to try. The only downside I feel is all the measures for the cake ingredients are in cups and unless you're familiar with ' cups ' you have to find a conversion table for British equivalent.

Great book
I've followed yo for a long time on youtube, I've learned so much from her and my now favourite go to cake is her vanillia. Holds very well. So when I seen her book on here I was over the moon and had to purchase it. I love her intro, and she has inspired me what I should have done years ago making cakes. All her ideas are amazing and it's a great book to learn from. She gives all the information and even breaks it down. It also has a converstion table at the back. She is amazing and an inspiration to learn from. Delivery was very fast.

Love this book so much I have it both as hardcover and ebook!
I first discovered Yo and her cakes when a friend shared her 'brain cake' (see her website) on Facebook, which I made for that year's Halloween - people still remember that cake from that year! So when I found her book and youtube channel after that, I was very happy. Her chocolate cake recipe is now my staple cake for decorating, and I've learned so much from her for decoration. And I looove how focused she is on getting the details right, to the point of obsession (seen even more on her youtube channel)! The hard back book does make it easier to cook from as I use it as the main reference but the ebook is also handy for the shopping list if the book isn't around!

Love, love, love it!
Having been a huge fan of her Youtube channel for years, I just couldn't resist buying her book. The moment I received it, I couldn't wait any longer and read the whole thing! It probably took me about two hours to read the whole book. It is very informative and has a lot of helpful tips. Her recipes and cakes looked fantastic and has a lot of guidance to help you build the whole thing. It can be intimidating for you but with her book and helpful tips, you can totally build it! I haven't baked a 3D cake yet but I'm planning to... soon!
