Q: Is this light enough to function as a sarong for belly dancing?

I do not do belly dancing so I am Not sure on exactly how light you need or what you would wear. I picture belly dancing as being more of a sheer fancy look, but if a semi sheer cotton look is what you want, I would say yes it would work.

Q: does this run? (is the dye set)

The dye is set by the sun. There have been some occurrences that it has a little extra dye. My suggestion is to soak in warm water before the first use to make sure that there is no extra dye. The batik method we use at Shu-Shi is an ancient technique that has been around in tribal island lands for many generations. I hope this was helpful. -Sharona Shu-Shi Shop, Owner
