Very awesome box for OpnSense!
I decided to go with this box over the Protectli due to it being about $200 cheaper for a similar specced version, I got the Celeron J6413 version with the 6 x Intel I226-V 2.5GB Nics. There were some concerns about heat with it being fanless. The box gets toasty at about 55 degrees celsius with a room temp of 72 degrees Fahrenheit. It is all still within spec but I like my box cooler. I ordered this fan AC Infinity AXIAL 1225 https://a.co/d/7fBkzLQ due to it being made out of cast aluminum and it being able to add some airflow to the top of the heatsink as well as absorb some of the heat from the top heatsink. Temps went down to 35 degrees celsius within minutes and case is cool to the touch now. Overall the box performs extremely well as an OpnSense transparent firewall with IPS and Geo-Blocking and Unbound with DNSBL. Absolutely worth it and glad I went with this over the Protectli. I paired it with a Transcend MSata 256GB SSD (yes it only takes MSata and not M.2) and 32GB of Crucial DDR4 3200 SO-DIMMS. Load never exceeds 30-40% with the temps never going above 40 degrees with the fan on top.Would buy again and recommend. Also note, the seller reached out to me after buying and recommended some SSD and Memory brands to be compatible with the box. I was all set already but it was a very nice gesture and a sign of good customer service!

Excellent features & cost, outstanding customer support
Purchased the barebones RJ09 model with J6413 processor to use as a pfSense platform. I installed a Kingston mSATA drive and Crucial 3200 MHz memory, both are working with no issues.Very pleased with this product's price, performance and silent operation. An added bonus is that HUNSN's customer service is excellent! They answered my few questions quickly and thoroughly.I'm running this as the central router/firewall for my home with Ubiquiti switches and APs handling Layer 2. Mid-tens of clients with multiple VLANs, IPv4 and v6, Wireguard, inter-subnet rules, 1 Gbps symmetric ISP service, etc. The CPU rarely goes over 2% and memory usage is < 2GB of the 8 GB installed. Guessing the box will be more than adequate for almost any home setting and many small businesses. If the combination of your inter-VLAN and Internet traffic is less than 2.5 Gbps, you can put all of your internal networks on an aggregation switch behind this unit and connect via a single port ("router on a stick" model). That leaves 5 ports available for WAN connection(s) and special purpose connections. Some setup notes.- To run it headless, enable the serial port console via the BIOS (ESC/DEL to enter BIOS at post). You may have to attach a display and USB keyboard to set this initially.- For pfSense, as of May 2023-- pfSense 2.6 CE does not have drivers for the I-226V NICs. Simplest thing is to run pfSense 2.7 CE from the development branch, which does support the NICs.-- Upgrading from pfSense 2.7 CE to pfSense Plus 23.01 is straightforward only with the 15 February 2023 release of 2.7. The more recent versions of 2.7 CE have a PHP library incompatibility with pfSense Plus 23.01.

Well built, plenty of NICs, excellent pfSense or OPNsense firewall appliance
This Review is for the BARE BONES model, 6 NICS, Intel J6413 CPU, i226VI own several of these Intel x86-based mini PC's. This one has six (6) i226V NICs, and all I can say is, the more NICs, the better. Dual WAN? No problem, you'll still have 4 extra NICs to use as you please...LAGG them all together with a LACP-capable switch and let this thing rip on your home or small business network.Opted for the bare bones model...tossed in a 256GB mSATA SSD and 16GB of RAM. Why not...RAM and mSATA drives are pretty inexpensive these days. All you need to do is remove 4 screws on the bottom plate and it pops right off, giving you access to the internals for installing your storage and RAM. This appliance has 2 DDR4 SO-DIMM slots, so make sure you load it up with 32GB of DDR4, don't cheap out and stop at 16GB like I did. No one wants an empty SO-DIMM slot in their device. Throw Proxmox on there, now you have a bunch of servers in one. Can't go wrong.Only downside...mSATA. Why not just standardize on NVMe? mSATA drives are pretty cheap and readily available, but NVMe is just a much better performer, and NVMe SSD drives continue to rapidly fall in price as they flood the market.I'd recommend OPNsense on this device over pfSense. OPNSense has full driver support for the i226V 2.5Gbe NIC. pfSense might be a little dicey and some extra work, so if you enjoy searching for and installing new drivers, go for it.Docking a star for mSATA and price. These cost $100 less on aliexpress, but I wanted instant gratification and didn't want to grow old waiting for this to arrive on my doorstep. HUNSN seems to be building these with quality parts, so I recommend you stock up on these like a doomsday prepper and decorate your server rack or wall with them before they go further up in price. You won't find a consumer router/firewall on the market that will perform as well as one of these running pfSense and OPNsense. ASUS/Netgear/whatever network junk stocked at Best Buy simply doesn't compare to these in terms of performance and reliability.

Great product and even better firewall with OPNsense!
I purchased the bare bones mini with 6-2.5gb ports, Intel J6413 processor. Paired a single 8gb silicon power ddr4 3200 sodimm and a transcend 128gb msata ssd and this baby is great. Created me a usb flash drive with the current opnsense image and went into the AMD BIOS to set usb boot and it worked very easily. Formatted the ssd with the live boot image and installed the software. Restarted and went back to bios to change boot order to ssd first and viola, all done. All 6 ports are working great and my little opnsense firewall is running amazing. Very cool and extremely stable so far.My only complaint is there isn’t a U.S. manual but I really didn’t need it, just wanted it. It works great and you won’t be disappointed at all. Very good construction and I have already told all of my friends to buy one.Great product so far! 5 stars….just do it!

Funktioniert mit OPNsense und PfSense (ab v2.7.0)
Lässt sich einfach aufrüsten mit z.B. Kingston KC600 SSD und zweimal Crucial DDR4 3200 RAM CT16G4SFRA32A.

Ottimo firewall
PfSense è già preinstallato all'ultima versione.

It works well with Linux / OpenWRT
I already had a 256GB mSATA SSD, so I ordered the J6413 barebones version and a 8GB Crucial DIMM separately. The mini PC arrived very well-protected: in a double cardboard box with some additional foam spacer inside. There were some screws (for the internal SATA SSD) and some minimal documentation only inside - get in touch with their customer service for detailed photos and the AMI UEFI setup's manual, they will send these to you happily!I could easily get off the bottom cover, put in the DIMM and the mSATA SSD, put it together again and it booted nicely. I had a FreeBSD 13.1-RELEASE USB installer on hand, so tried that first, it booted nicely. AFAIR there were some warnings regarding the network interfaces (i226). I also tried OmniOS, which started booting, but then likely froze with a black screen - I didn't see anything after a while on the console. I assume the hardware is simply to new and yet unknown for OmniOS.After these I installed OpenWRT on a USB drive, it booted flawlessly and found all hardware without issues. In idle mode it consumes 9-10W with a DIMM and an SSD installed. I'm still setting it up, so I have no information about power consumption when under load. The CPU package is ~44 degrees C when idling, the 4 cores are at 38 degC (according to sensors in OpenWRT).Suggestions:1) load the defaults in UEFI setup, then go to CPU settings and enable C2 sleep state. Otherwise the CPU frequency (at least in Linux) cannot go down to 7-800 MHz2) the serial console works well, use a standard RS232-RJ45 cable. Set the terminal type to VT100+colours, works better than ANSI.If you want any infos, just contact HUNSN's customer service, they are very helpful and reply quickly.

It does exactly what it says it does!
I bought it in order to host KVMs (Linux virtual hosts). It works very well for that purpose, and is also surprisingly fast at it. When installing a SATA drive (which I did, in addition to a mSATA drive) some of the airflow internally is obstructed, so that's something to consider when thinking about cooling requirements. Having said that, it has a very chunky heat sink that does a very good job. The build quality is A1. All up I am very impressed with it.
