Tall, sturdy & my cat loves it!
The media could not be loaded. When I received this it came in a smaller box than I thought it would. I didn't realize the post itself would be in 2 parts. My 10 year old son insisted on putting it together by himself. It was easy for him to put together and I only had to clarify 1 thing for him while he did it. It's very sturdy and my cat started using it right away. I couldn't get a good picture of him but the video I included shows how excited he is. Every time he's happy he flops on his side and does this silly rubbing on the floor. He's been using it ever since and I didn't even need to put catnip on it to get him to use it. My apartment only has carpet in the bedrooms and he was using the carpet as his scratch pad. Since I'm renting this obviously wasn't good but now he's stopped! I'm considering getting a 2nd one to put in my living room.

Attractive and effective, but not long lasting - Wish they made replacement inserts
I'm actually a fan of this scratching post - I bought it so my cat would have a place to scratch in the living room that doesn't look terrible, and it does that job spot on. It was very easy to assemble (their description says 8 minutes, but by myself it took under 5) and is fairly sturdy, especially for a tall cat like my gal.The downside is that, as other reviewers have noted, the sisal does begin to come away from the base within a few months with regular use. I managed to get some more milage out of it by swapping out which half of the scratching post was on top and which was on bottom about halfway through its life, but after 9 months it's close to bald. I wish that the brand sold replacement scratching inserts, since it seems wasteful to buy a whole new scratcher and it would be easy to screw on a new tube to replace the old ones without getting rid of the top and base.

Allows cats to stretch while scratching
My cats love to sharpen their claws. The only place they've been able to comfortably stretch out when they do has been one of their cat towers. I've bought smaller scratching posts before for them, but they don't pay any attention to them. I'd been reading up on what cats prefer, and saw that tall scratching posts are much preferred because they allow full body stretch. This is why I purchased this ultimate scratching post. As you can see from the pictures, my two male cats quickly tried it out and found they loved it!The base is heavy and sturdy enough for my cats to scratch at the post without it tipping over, and Bonsai loves sitting on the perch, which has a removable cushion you can clean easily. The post allows them to stretch to full length while scratching.Assembly was very easy and took all of 5 minutes. The only tool needed was provided, which was an Allen wrench. My cats and I are very happy with my purchase, and I've recommended this product to family and friends.

very nice and tall-we have two cats who are long and lythe. This post should be able to accomodate almost all cats (not the giant cats one sees on the net occaisionally. Would buy again. Check also---the company sells the two cylinders that make up the post. They sell cylinders that are wall mounted at a very reasonable price-bout 25 a piece, so you can make a wall gym for particularly active cats. I plan to invest in them as soon as my busy kittens indicate where they want to be etc. Fabric is sisal, a type of carpet that cats can easily grab and is a popular material. The compeititor sells at 45 a piece. Why spend twice as much?

Nice looking and it works! BUT does not last.
EDIT with new (and not good) info: I bought (and reviewed) this two months ago. And, apparently, it has a working life of not much more than that. I have one cat and the sisal has already started to come away from the post. Especially in the middle where it joins. I bought this particular post for its looks. It's in the living room and I want it to look nice. It's starting to look pretty shabby already. I say in another month it will be too shredded to be living room worthy. Had I known it would only last 3 months, I would not have purchased it.-----My cat plopped on the pad while it was still on the counter and I was putting the rest of this together. It was done and standing in its forever spot about 3 minutes before she was scratching on it profusely. I think she likes. It's a handsome piece and nice and tall so she can fully stretch out (which she did right away).I will note that mine arrived with the sisal pulling away from one of the posts. My hot glue gun fixed the problem but I do hope it will be possible to get replacement posts when she wears these out which she sure will.

Not the easiest to construct and a little overpriced
Have purchased many different models of cat scratchers in the past and so am familiar with construction techniques. Nearly every one I have purchased was put together in about 2 minutes or less. This one however was a bit of a pain as all the surfaces are smooth and all they give you to put it together is an allen wrench. This is fine for short screws, but the smooth surfaces on which the washer and bolt must drag coupled with the long length of the bolt made getting a tight fit very difficult. It comes with bolts not screws so nothing on the bolt can catch like the threads of a screw can. Once built though it is very sturdy and one of my cats loves the post on top to sit on and stare down at the other cat! I say its only a 3 out of 5 stars for value because it was rather expensive and the quality of the scratching material wasn't what I would expect for the money. The same night I put it up, we already had large threads coming off of the 'carpeted' siding and continue having to cut larger pieces away every few days so the cats dont grab on to those thick strands and unravel the whole thing. If it can last 9 months or so I am happy with it, and with this weekly maintenance I hope it will, just would've liked to not have to keep an eye on it for the $60 or so I paid for it.

Super Scratching Post
Very stylish scratching post, easy to put together and very sturdy. Being extra tall it allows cats to have a really good stretch. One of my kittens is enjoying sitting on the platform which has a really nice soft cushion. The actual scratch post is covered in hessian which is really strong and great for sharpening those claws! Me and my cats are very pleased with it and goes well with my decor.

Looks good but cheap glue
Looks good but glue isn't that effective; my (small) puppy pulled it off when left alone for a few minutes. I hammered in the material and works well now.

Nice and tall and sturdy but the scratching material is pulling off and coming apart at the joins after not a lot of use.

Such good quality!
This is really strong and stable with a solid wooden base.Needed to be assembled on arrival but only took me about 5 minutes. The cats loved it straight away and it's tall enough for them to climb. The top pad is sensibly held on with Velcro so it can be removed for washing, something my last scratching post lacked.Would be great to see this product in lighter colours too to match some of our furniture.
