Another enjoyable romance
I received with thanks an ARC copy of The Governess Game from Mills & Boon and Netgalley. This is my true and honest review of The Governess Game (Girl Meets Duke #2). This was published on 6th September 2018.This is book 2 of ‘Girl Meets Duke’ and follows Alexandra and Chase. Chase never wanted to be heir to his uncle’s dukedom but due to unforeseen tragic circumstances, he is now heir and guardian to two young and unruly girls. He has hired multiple governesses, and none have lasted. He thinks all is lost until Alexandra turns up to offer her services as a clock repair/maintenance lady. Due to a miss understanding that was started and year and a half before, Alex is offered the job of as his ward's governess. At first, she turns down his offer, but circumstances mean to has to take the offer. Alexandra knows that Chase is not the ideal employer as he is known as a scoundrel and rake well known in society as a seducer of women. But Alexandra can’t help the attraction towards the notorious rake.Like all Tessa Dare’s books, this is romantic, funny and highly enjoyable. I loved Alexandra’s and Chase’s relationship. It was great to see other characters from book one of the series. This was just as adorable as book one. Cannot wait for book 2.A great book anyone who loves romance and historical romance.

A Governess in Love with A Bookshop Rake! What's Not to Love?
Alexandra Mountbatten makes her living by providing accurate timekeeping services to wealthy members of society. She comes to Chase Reynaud’s home expressly for this purpose, and finds herself face-to-face with the Bookshop Rake she met more than six months ago at Hatchard’s. She fell in love with him at first sight when she met him then, and she often fantasized about bumping into him again, hoping he would admit he fell in love with her at first sight as well, highly improbable a notion though it was. Shocked, and quite flustered, at this turn of events, she makes an attempt to leave straightaway, wondering if he will recognize her, but he does not. Chase mistakenly believes she is there to interview for a job as governess to his two mischievous wards, Rosamund and Daisy, and he immediately hires her on the spot as a last resort. His wards are extremely troublesome and no governess before her has lasted long because of their naughtiness and penchant for misbehaving. Alexandra declines at first, but a mishap involving the Thames and the loss of all her timekeeping equipment, forces her to reconsider, and she eventually accepts the position. She grows to love the girls, while falling even more hopelessly in love with her employer. Chase has a dark secret, however, and a negative incident in his life has rendered him incapable of forming lasting relationships with anyone. Will he be able to look past his mistakes and dare to fall in love, or will his past haunt him forever?I personally adored every single aspect of this romance! Alexandra uses logic, sense, and practicality to guide her through difficulties in her life, and I found her unique interest in astronomy and comets immensely satisfying. She comes across as a strong heroine with a diverse heritage and a great mix of eclectic friends who support her no matter what. Chase is a typical hero who tries to numb his pain through meaningless sex, but he does manage to stand out because of his sense of humor and his ability to understand and mentally articulate the reasons for his behavior. The author did a fantastic job of keeping me riveted to every page, and if I hadn’t been reading other books at the same time, I truly believe I would have devoured this book in one day. The only negative comment I have about this book is that I felt it ended too soon. The author could have handled the ending better and made it feel not so rushed and forced. I think Chase could have been portrayed differently at the end as well. He did not come across as apologetic as I thought he should have, and I felt disappointed by his actions. Overall, I do highly recommend this romance to adults, and I hope it touches every reader’s heart as much as it touched mine!
