Handy pocket sized guide
This little map folds down to about the size of 2 credit cards so is easily carried in a pocket or handbag, it opens out to a fairly large map so space is needed to open it fully but if out and about it can be opened to specific areas without needing to open the whole map and you're unlikely to need the entire map if you're looking for a specific area. The actual markers for each filming location are fairly non-specific, giving a little icon roughly in the area of filming so if you want to narrow it down to exact locations you'll need to supplement it with a more detailed description, there's plenty of online reference to shooting locations which should help. This is more of a generic overview of locations giving an idea of density of filming within an area of the country and as such shouldn't be used exclusively to find any particular location but more of a point in the general direction, you also get little snippets of information relating to the locations but again these are quite generic and if you want to know more detailed information additional reference material will be helpful. Think of this as a handy little overview that can help plan trips to areas you're interested in, with additional information used from external sources to further enhance what is shown on the map. As someone that was born and brought up in one of the areas on this map that provided the backdrop to several TV shows and films, I have visited a good few of them already and this guide hits some of the key points for anyone looking to visit a location and see for themselves what inspired the filmmakers to use them in their productions, slightly biased I may be but there are certainly plenty of places to visit in Scotland that look worthy of inclusion in scenery intensive productions, a view shared by almost anyone that visits some of its unique and beautiful geography, just remember to pack some waterproofs!

Such a good idea!
This is a great little pocket map, with the brilliant addition of highlighting filming locations for some well-known films and TV shows. I adore Scotland and have been there on many occasions, but I’ve lost count of the number of times we’ve driven through an amazing location, only to realise afterwards that it had been in a favourite film or show, which would have definitely added something extra on top. We’re going to Scotland again later this year, and have already used this map to adjust the route we’re intending to take, to add a few special locations in; we will be watching the films and shows again before we go. Even if you take the film stuff away, this is still a great map.At the time of writing this review, the cost is £3.99, and it’s worth every penny. Happy to recommend.

Find the filming locations of many TV and Films
I would describe this as a pocket-sized map with a caveat - it opens out to a huge map, so you need room and be in a wind free location to make the most of it.The map itself is 8.7miles/inch (5.61km/cm) map of Scotland, including the Orkneys and Shetland - although the scale for Shetland is 12.4miles/inch (8.01km/cm). There are locations listed for major TV and film shoots, with Glasgow and Edinburgh city centres having a blown-up view too. Around the edge there is some information on some of these locations, talking more about them and roughly where they are.The paper and printing are clear, although the central areas from Glasgow to Edinburgh is busy and awkward to read at times. With the scale being quite large, it isn't easy to see exactly where the locations are (for example the icon is about 4mm in size, so sits over an area about 1.5*2.25km).Overall, as a guide to filming locations in Scotland, this is good, but you are best using it with a more authoritative source as well, so you can find exactly the location if you are looking to visit.

Great for TV fans and explorers
These are a great idea when out and about, as it gives added depth to the areas that you are visiting rather than just the historical facts that can sometimes get a bit tedious. If a place visited has an added connection to a favourite film or TV series then I for one would probably take more away from it. Also, many sites are filmed specifically for their character and beauty so it is highly likely that these places are worth visiting anyhow. These really give a new dimension for children too and can bring an otherwise boring drive to life. The great cartography is what you would expect from Collins and the scale is 8.7 miles to an inch or 1:550,000.A great idea for your holidays or just out on a drive, these are also useful as maps too if there is no GPS signal!.

It’s okay
As maps go, and bear in mind they aren’t used in the way they used to be – a bit old-skool in a lot of respects, this is okay. There’s plenty of detail, and the print quality good. The map is double sided, and great if you are visiting Scotland, and interested in filming locations (which to be fair, most folk are). The quality of the paper is okay, nice and glossy, but quite thin, and it certainly won’t take too much folding and unfolding before it will start to split along the creases. This is compounded since the map is folded up so small, loads of folds. It isn’t that large to begin with, and print is quite small as well.Overall, this isn’t bad, the content itself is excellent, but if you want something like this, you may prefer in book form perhaps, this isn’t overly practical for travelling, just suited really for laying out on a table at home and having a look. Good luck trying to use out and about (especially in Scotland) – impossible with even a slight breeze. To be fair, that’s true of maps generally. It’s decent enough value.I hope that you have found this helpful.
