Probably the most helpful thing I can say about this mandolin slicing tool: the gap between the two side flanges is 109 mm (4.25"). It fits very well on my existing mandoline but I suspect that other models may vary wildly so do check before you order.The underside has useful dimpled areas to stop longer vegetables such as carrots from slipping out when slicing lengthways.The moulding quality is excellent but I think the plastic feels a little brittle. I haven't tried dropping it on a hard floor but I'm sure it won't be long. Fingers crossed!The holding spikes (for round things like potatoes and onions) have blunt ends (as most tools do) and they look to be firmly supported in the moulding.While the mandoline is notorious for causing nasty injuries, this tool should protect all but the most determined accident-prone cooks. Having one of these to hand also encourages one to use the mandoline for quick slicing jobs rather than picking up a sharp knife. Happy to recommend.

i measured my mandoline to make sure this would extend over the raised edges, and it does, but only just. I will have to take care not to let one side slip over the edge. However, as any mandoline user knows, this is only of consequence when you try to slice off the very last possible piece of vegetable..This hand protector does its job and fits my hand nicely - but i'd still like it a little wider.
