The Calyx Mini Binds provides privacy when the slats are closed, but if you are/were looking for a blackout shade to block light completely from your room when it is dark out we would recommend a different window treatment option

Q: Are the blackout blinds also insulating/thermal, and are they okay to use in a window with direct hot sun?

The blackout shade does offer insulation and it can be used in a window that is direct to sunlight.

There is no video for these, not good

Q: What is the thickness of the vinyl used?

Im not quite sure of the thickness. If your looking for something that will block cold or heat these are not it. They will definitely block light, but it will radiate through.
