Dexter: The Complete Series + Dexter: New Blood

Most unusual show I've watched in a long while
Having ignored crime shows for years (burn out) I never watched Dexter. Bored one day I decided to watch an episode when I found it on Netflix. I started watching almost with a sense of dread. Just another boring crime show with the same . . crime, chase, catch . . story line. By the third episode I was hooked. So different was the plot, the acting by all characters was awesome, story so engaging, unexpected twists and turns, characters with human frailties. The show was like nothing I had ever watched. I'm not easily impressed. I found myself feeling uneasy when I realized I was quietly rooting for a serial killer but glad when the bad guy was taken down. You find yourself watching a crime show from a viewpoint you have never experienced before. Besides the regular cast there is an unexpected entrances of incredible guest stars who elevated the story line even more. Over the next few weeks I watched the entire series. If you are looking for a different kind of crime show with incredible acting, story and plot . . this is it. The shows uniqueness reminded me of watching Hill Street Blues the first time yet . . completely different . . but with characters/story lines that you remember to this day.A few days ago I heard about the Dexter: New Blood series. On doing a search I found this Dexter: The Complete Series + Dexter: New Blood release. Knowing I wanted to see the "New Blood" series I asked myself "Will I ever watch the original series again?". My answer was . . yes at some point . . so I decided to get this release in case the series became scarce in a few years. I decided to pay the extra $20 and go with the Blu-ray release. If you like unusual crime dramas, 8 seasons + an extra final season the price is well worth it IMHO.The one negative I have is the disk case. On opening the container I found some of the disks loose and floating freely. I carefully placed each of the disks back in their location. Later in the day I decided to check a few disks to confirm they were not damaged. It was extremely hard to get a disk to release from the case. The central clipping design made it very hard to disengage the disks. The case also seemed to have a feel of brittleness to it. I'm concerned over time it will eventually fail.My solution was to find my ancient, half empty box of DVD sleeves. I labeled each sleeve (i.e. Dexter: Season 1 Disk 1 of 3) and carefully removed all disks from the original container. Again, I was surprised at how difficult it was to get the disks to release. Getting the disks out, while engaged in the show, would have been difficult. Also, season disks are located under other disks, sometime three deep. Do I put the top disks on a table while I watch the disk under them or put them back in the container out of order??The entire collection is now safely stored, each in a protective sleeve, in a small metal container received at Xmas. I can easily access every disk without danger of scratching or breakage. I'll keep the original packaging stored away.I can recommend these sleeves or similar for the storage job -DVD Paper Sleeves - https://www.amazon.com/Memorex-01961-Paper-Sleeves-White/dp/B000086EYG

when SHTF it's good to have options. DVDs are reliable when streaming is not
Haven't gone through all the discs. So far seems fine. I will update if need be.I have already seen both shows and loved each. Love the Dexter franchise and wanted to have a hard copy so I dont have to rely on streaming. If internet goes down, or the grid, I have entertainment during the inevitable apocalypse (lol?) It takes very little to power up a dvd player and tv using a power bank. Over the past few years I've been buying DVDs of series I really like, ones I could watch over and over. Again, streaming services are often switching things around, internet may not be relied on, and if the economy gets as terrible as it has been in 2025, I expect it to only get unfathomably bad and just want some sure-fire cheap entertainment at home if I ditch unessential stuff.I know DVDS are so old school at this point, but it's worth having a collection to fall back on.I'm currently done with adding to my collection, but I plan to buy Original Sin (and the other one that is in the works) when the time comes.

Excellent in many ways
In many ways this an original idea and that is brilliantly explored and executed. Over the course of 8 seasons there are several threads that don't fully work, and not all of the perfpormances are convincing, but the core story arc and the core actors are absolutely brilliant and revelatory. This is a great modern noir.

Dexter
Great series. Never seen it from start to finish. I bought this series awhile ago but didn’t realize it was Blue Ray. Got a Blue Ray for Christmas, so now I can give my review. One CD skipped here and there. The New Blood series is really messed up. First CD couldn’t watch at all, on the second one it’s skipping like crazy. I cleaned them and now they are working good. So check for finger prints.

DVDs are so tangible these days! It’s nice to be able to pop one in and have them in demand. Great show! If you love a good thrill.

Huge Dexter Fan! If You Don't Stream, Get the DVDs!
The DVDs are great. If you're a Dexter fan and don't subscribe to a streaming service to watch any or all of the series at your convenience, this set is for you! My husband and I still watch DVDs and don't subscribe to too many streaming services, so DVDs are a good entertainment value for us. Maybe they are for you too!
