Franz Ferdinand are welcomed into the Late Night Tales family with a diverse 20 track selection of musical influences, inspirations, diversions and discoveries. The quartet have released four studio albums including their 2004 self-titled debut album, which went gold just about anywhere with a record store, as well as nabbing the Mercury Music Prize and a pair of Brits for Best British Group and Best British Rock Act. They've subsequently gone on to release You Could Have It So Much Better, Tonight: Franz Ferdinand and last year's Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action. Announcing itself with Franz Ferdinand's own exclusive cover version of the hugely collectible 'Leaving My Old Life Behind', originally performed by Jonathan Halper, (which appeared on the cult Kenneth Anger movie Puce Moment), their Late Night Tales mix flows between dark and light, introspection and affection, dancing and horizontal appreciation. Hear them join the dots between Can, Serge Gainsbourg and the West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band, Sandy's Nelson's percussion work-out 'Let There Be Drums', the irrepressible Ian Dury, funky sensations Zapp and the Disco Dub Band and sonic explorer Lee 'Scratch' Perry. It wouldn't be right for Franz Ferdinand to produce a mix such as this without a nod to the country that brought them together, so Glasgow's Life Without Buildings, whose uplifting 'New Town' appears alongside 'Reach for the Dead' by Boards of Canada. As they leave US wondering and wandering with American Spring's Brian Wilson-produced ' Sweet Mountain ', we take leave of our senses and suitcases on this tour bus of your mind. We've visited soul, funk, reggae, pop, Krautrock and others besides, but before we depart, Franz frontman Alex Kapranos provides a final farewell with the self penned story 'Defibrillator'.

Upbeat and Sexy
The new trend of Late Night Takes has been to feature a wide array of downbeat numbers and jazz. Franz Ferdinand Late Might is anything but. Great deep grooves, upbeat in nature, with a healthy dose of soul. Pick this up for a pre party mix, and save the other great LNT issues (MGMT, Nils F, et al.) for your after party parties

Prob my favorite of the Late Night series so far. Lots of gems in this one and a fantastic cover by Franz Ferdinand to top it all off. Highly recommended.

Why Don't You Get Back Into Bed.... 1, 2, 3.
I very much enjoyed Franz Ferdinand's Late Night Tales; pretty trippy journey. The album contains songs from many bands, presumably selected by the band members, and the final track tells a small story about a band that existed for all of a few hours.Personally, I most enjoyed the first songs up to Let There Be Drums, as well as Connection, Reasons to be Cheerful Part 3, and everything past Reach For The Dead. That's just my personal taste, but given that means I liked at least half of the album, I consider it a good sign.If you like odd songs of the trippy variety, things that go on repetitive and long for that hypnotic appeal, things that sound like an audio glitch and things that may've been written and sung by people on hallucinogens, this is a great album to check out.

Not quite what i was expecting. I should have done more research on it before i bought it. 1975 is a great song, but other than that, i don't think it is really worth it.

Influences, Diversions & Inspirations
It never ceases to amaze me that so many clueless people pick up these "Late Night Tales" CDs and think it's a brand new album by the featured artist. Don't these people know how to read? Ah, but I digress. This recent installment in the long-running series is highlighted by another eclectic batch of songs. all chosen by the featured artist, in this case Franz Ferdinand. The criteria remains the same; these are songs that have some special meaning to the guys in the band. As it says on the back cover, these are influences, diversions, and inspirations.I have many albums in this incredible series and I always end up getting turned on to music that I've never heard before. I own several thousand albums, so that's saying something! This time around, I was impressed with new discoveries such as the West Coast Pop Art Experiment Bang, Life Without Buildings, and Carrie Cleveland. Very cool songs! Factor in the expected greatness of artists such as Sandy Nelson ("Let There Be Drums" is such a classic!), Ian Dury, Lee 'Scratch' Perry (the fantastic "Disco Devil"), Paul McCartney & Wings, and James Brown, and you've got yourself a party! The one song that actually IS performed by Franz Ferdinand is another one of the CD's highlights; a cover of an obscure 1960s song by Jonathan Halper.Like the other albums in this series, the CD comes with a booklet that has short descriptions/explanations about each track and why it was picked. Enlightening and Enjoyable!

Not what I expected at all. Was so excited they were putting out a new album, but definitely not what I thought it was going to be.

Two Stars
This is not a Franz Ferdinand album of new material. I found parts of it almost unlistenable.
