I bought this as a sandpit for my dog, and to be fair, I think it'll do that job nicely. The wood is very soft indeed - getting the screws in was a doddle, it felt like screwing into cheese! But when I had to move it slightly to get the ends to meet, one of the corners split - I've had to screw several screws at various angles to hold it together.When the base of the structure was together, the screw holes for the seats didn't line up with the wood, meaning I had to put the screws in places where there wasn't a pre drilled hole for them - as I said, the wood's so soft it was no effort to do this (although I did use a power screwdriver). The lid doesn't sit properly - it doesn't line up so although the pit is covered enough to deter the local cats from using it as a toilet, it won't keep insects and rain out - I'll probably have to by a heavy duty stretch cover for that.I initially ordered 50kg of play sand to go in it - I've had to order a further 100kg to give it any kind of depth for digging in as the original 50 kg gave about 1cm of coverage in the bottom of the pit.Overall, I'd say it was relatively low cost and the quality reflects this - it will be ideal for my dog to dig in, but I'm not sure it's sturdy enough for a couple of toddlers: I suspect any weight on the little seats at the side will pull the screws out of the wood. On balance, I should probably have paid a bit more for a better quality, more robust product but I'm happy enough with it.
