My Mind has been blasted…
With nostalgia and adventure! I read this series so many times when i was young. This edition is great and is packed with lore and the words are nice and big so my age ravaged eyes can see them.I was always the DM in our tabletop sessions and so these books were my chance to relax and play.Gary Chalk’s art still sings and Dever is a skilled world-builder and fantasy writer.Rest in peace, Dever, you were one of the good ones.

The Best Choice Your Own Adventure Series!
Man! I really loved the Lone Wolf books as a kid. I couldn't wait for a new one to come out! Once I heard they were being re-released, I knew I had to have them! They're still great, even as an adult!

The greatest choose your own adventure books ever written!
When I read these as a kid they ignited a passion for reading that has eventually lead me to other works of literature, but even as an adult I continually find myself going back and rereading these incredibly detailed adventure books. Any reader will become immersed in the world of Magnamund and experience the thrills, excitement, and imagination that you will need to succeed as Lone Wolf, the last of the Kai lords. I'm so glad they are releasing these books again and that the entire series of 32 books that Joe Dever started back in the 1980's will soon be completed by his son Ben Dever.Buy this for your son or daughter and let their imaginations roam free or buy it for yourself for a great read. For Summerlund and the Kai!

The Best of the Fighting Fantasy Genre of Gamebooks is Back!
Finally the much awaited return to the World of Magnamund!Flight From The Dark by Joe Dever is the first Lone Wolf book of a 32-part series. If you've ever experienced the old Fighting Fantasy Gamebooks, Choose or Own Adventure, Wizards Warriors & You, etc, these might have some similarities but are far superior. Not only is the mythology and the world unique and very rich but you can also keep your skills/stats/equipment and carry forward to the next book(s) in the series. These new editions update the old series from the 80s and 90s with new artwork and added content. Another reviewer claimed Gary Chalk (the original illustrator) was back but unfortunately that isn't the case. Instead they are using a new artist who has a similar style but just isn't as good. That's my only disappointment. However, they did use the same font and the design is nearly identical as it was with the old editions. There's a lot of twists and turns to this Book 1 story and the monsters are truly nasty! I love that there's a true sense of danger and urgency as you make your way cross country to the capital.I highly recommend these books for anyone that loves D&D, fantasy themed boardgames, etc., but doesn't mind solo-play. There's also a podcast called "Journeys Through Magnamund" that is a must listen to for fans of the series.

Not original artwork
I feel the original version from the 80s was better though this extended version wasn’t bad. They should have kept the original artwork and just added more.

A treasured part of my childhood
Being a huge fan of choose your own adventure, it was only natural that I would stumble across this series as a child. I fell in love with the realm of Magnamund and used to rush to the fantasy section of the book store everytime I was there to look for the next one. To find them re-released like this, AND the British editions that never made it to US shores also being reprinted for the US market a dream come true. Please take a chance, and introduce yourself or your children to the adventures of the last of the Kai......its a choice you will not regret.

Great new edition to some of my favorite fantasy worlds
I first read this book when I was maybe 8, and unlike other books I aged out of I find it as enjoyable now when I’m [old] as I did back then

So much fun!!!
This is a choose your own adventure but it’s so much more. Create a character. Choose abilities. Roll a D10 and engage in combat. Every choice has a consequence for good or bad. Took me 4 characters to make it through the adventure. But I could play this again and again and it will be different every time. Also a fantastic way to introduce people who may be curious about role playing games in an easy to understand way. Highly recommend this.

The definitive edition of an all-time classic
After 38 years and several revisions since the original publishing, the first chapter of Joe Dever's monumental gamebook saga is finally back in print, in a never-seen-before form.Holmgard Press have opted to not reprint the infamous extended edition of FftD, which completely rewrote Lone Wolf's first adventure adding a whole new introductory sequence and an approach much more in line with the later books in the series. This definitive edition reprises the original 350-section adventure, but at the same time it does expand on the old, no-nonsense text with some paragraphs added from the expanded edition. The battle of Alema Bridge and the adventure's ending, in particular, have some savoury new text that makes these scenes a bit more poignant than in the 1984 book. But there's also some new details here and there that make this book a bit different from what the old fans may remember. The adventure itself is as good as ever, with its many branching paths, tense encounters, and perils aplenty. It's still one of the most open-ended Lone Wolf adventures ever, fully deserving of multiple reads to explore it in full. Moreover, there's some excellent appendixes at the end of the book (and also the new editions of Book 2 and 3) that describe the origins of Magnamund and the places and creatures you'll encounter during the adventure.A gamebook classic reprinted for a new generation of readers, Flight from the Dark from Holmgard Press is simply a must-read for fans of the genre. Five stars!
