The Bob Ross Coloring Book

Rough Sketches for you to "Bob Ross" into shape yourself
When I saw the previews of this Bob Ross coloring book, I was disappointed. The pages are rough sketches really. Then when it arrived, it was just as disappointing. But as I flipped through the book, I happened on the thumbnail color guides, and it was...AHA!The rough sketches are exactly that – what you would rough out on a canvas with charcoal or a pencil. But taken with the color guide as inspiration, you can see where to zoom off into the Wild Art Yonder. If you are comfortable with that – zooming off! – and you like simple almost iconic landscapes, you’ll enjoy this book. It will be challenging to get that flowing painterly look with pencils or markers, but that should be all part of the fun. If you don't step outside of your comfort zone, it will be hard to encounter those Happy Little Accidents that are so much of the Bob Ross experience. It would be interesting to see how some of these looked with oil pastel or soft pastels. Check out how much white some of the thumbnails have and leave blank or very light areas on your page to get that look.On the other hand, if you like very directed designs to color and don't like having to make a lot of decisions on the fly, this may not be the book for you.The pages are single-sided an unperforated, although there are Bob Ross quotes on the back of many of them. There are more than 75 drawings for your creative efforts. It’s irritating that none of the paintings in the thumbnail color guide are identified so you could google them for a larger image for reference. The description of the book says it includes a gallery of Bob’s original artwork, but the reproductions are truly thumbnail sized, so that is a bit of a misrepresentation there.

Very nice coloring book
We bought this coloring book for our 12-year-old granddaughter who loves to draw and color. She was very pleased. Lots of pictures to color and they are not so detailed that they will be difficult for her to color but detailed enough to challenge her artistic skills. The book and pages are very good quality. We would recommend using crayons or colored pencils. Paints and markers might actually bleed through even though the paper the pictures are on s very good quality. Worth the price. Prompt delivery.

A Must Have for Bob Ross Fans...of Every Age
My 7 year old daughter unwrapped this on Christmas and had a look of pure joy and triumph when she laid her eyes on it. She is one of those kids who is very taken by Bob Ross episodes on Netflix. 🤷🏻♀️She has brought it around with her the past few days and has enjoyed coloring it.I will say that the pages are more simplistic than other adult coloring books. For example, there was a page with a large mountain in the backgroun and it was just a big expanse of blank space. She and I enjoyed planning what the mountain would look like. But there are also more complicated pages. Overall, if you feel open to a bit of free hand and “happy little accidents” you’ll be happy with this.

Fantastic gift AFTER you flatten it
Had to take off a star because the book got warped and wrinkled in shipping. It was tossed into a plastic mailer and crumpled up a bit during shipping. As for the book it's self. LOVELY. The illustrations are more like guide lines and allow the user to really explore and take creative freedoms when coloring. It's a great gift for coloring and nature enthusiasts.

Happy Purchase
I remember watching Bob Ross on TV back-in-the-day and it really motivated my own desire to paint. He made it look so effortless. Unfortunately my own lack of innate talent was an issue, it wasn't as easy as it looked. Still, I remember having fun trying. Nowadays I still do painting, but of the digital sort using a computer.I don't really do the adult coloring book sort of thing, but my sister does. I've bought her a number of the books but this one I purchased for myself. The book is a good size, not too small and not huge. The pages are about the thickness of card stock, or at least somewhat similar to 3x5 index cards. I'm guessing gel pens and markers will not bleed through. There are color reproductions of the paintings on the inside of the front & back covers to use as reference. Most pages have an image on one side and a quote (text) on the other side. But a few have images on both sides. The way the pages are bound, you're going to need to carefully cut pages out with an utility knife or razor blade (if you want to do that).Something odd, the copyright page says the book was first published in 2016, but I was under the impression that this was a newly published book.I'm more that happy with my purchase, and look forward to many happy hours completing the book.

I can color or paint like a pro, or just try.
I love these coloring books. What a great way to challenge myself and my rusty skills. I am happy to see that the original painting for each is pictured in the front or back of the book for admiration and reference.

Wonderful birthday gift
I gave this to my sister for her 60th birthday before she started a year of travel around the US and Italy. She loved it and said it was the perfect thing to go along with the watercolor pencils I gave her. It is a great travel item because it doesn't take up much room nor make a mess as a regular artist easel and paint would do. The little sayings on the back of the pictures are great and make me smile remembering Bob Ross. She commented on how we all grew up watching him on TV. She is very excited to use the book and I was pleased to give her are you really useful gift for the person who has everything. The pages are heavy and won't bleed through. It is a good quality book. The line drawings are just a guideline for the overall picture that you can paint not a color by number. I don't think most artists want to be told exactly what to do but a little guidance is great.

So Funny!
This was a great gift for my teenage artistic daughter, who finds all irreverent things a hoot. She loves it, hasn't used it yet, but loves it. It was a sort of gag gift. Lots of funny pages and Bob Ross quotes.
