Definitely a Must Read. Don’t miss it
Simon is a brilliant writer. This is the 2nd book I have read and I can hardly put them down. His empathy with the people and places he visits is remarkable. His own insights and some of those he meets make sooo much sense love how he doesn’t hold back on issues he feels strongly about yet willing to learn and adapt. His writing is passionate and honest, his views balanced, truthful and humorous. I enjoy his t.v series but his writing is even more powerful. Thank you Simon.

Insightful and inspiring
I love the shows and think the book is better. It gives simon a freedom to explore lessons that he has not time to reflect on on camera.

light and shade - personal and around the world
This book follows on from Step by Step by the same author. This one is a very personal account with a strong focus on the challenges Simon Reeve and his wife faced in trying to conceive, his love for his son, and thoughts on parenting in the modern world. The author also tells the tale of how and why they relocated to Devon and how the countryside of Devon was so important to his family during lockdown. He confesses to being a travel addict, and his struggles with not being able to travel at the moment are very relatable. I appreciated his optimism for the future.Alongside all this Simon Reeve tells stories from his journeys around the equator, tropics of Capricorn and Cancer , the Indian Ocean and along Sacred Rivers. The need to safeguard our seas, our wildlife, and indigenous communities is made very clear throughout, and the stories Reeve tells in this book somehow make the whole issue very up-close and very urgent.Simon Reeve has built his travel programmes and this book on a mixture of 'light and shade'. I must admit to preferring the light, and for me there is a little too much personal pain, a little too much habitat and species loss, in this book to make it really enjoyable reading at times. However, the author's honesty, modesty, and decency shine through these pages - and if this makes others aware of the challenges people and animals around the world are facing, and are motivated to act, reading the 'shade' will be well worth while.A great book to read if you too are missing the joy of travelling

An enjoyable read
This book is like travelling with Simon as his description of the places he visits are brought to life. I would recommend this book to everyone to broaden our ideas on life. The different people he meets and how they live are fascinating.
