Full Red (Volume 5) (XIII, 5)

With Full Red, the XX conspiracy is more or less wrapped up, and this end the first XIII storyline.XIII, Lt Jones, and Sgt Barnowsky make their way back to the US. While this is going on, the US military forces are about the conduct a full scale training task, with a mock invasion of the US. This is working into the hands of the conspiracy, which will use it for their takeover of the US.As part of this, several people who have been working to oppose them are arrested on trumped up charges, and an assassination attempt is made against Senator Wally Sheridan, brother of the slaighn President and presidential candidate himself.It all comes to a head, the conspiracy is exposed and stopped.BUT.We don't know who Number I is. Only II knew that, and he kills himself. And XIII doesn't know who he really is. Is he Jason Fly, or is that yet another false identity.These mysteries will be dealt with in future volumes.

Well, I thought the last instalment was bringing the series to an intermediate close, ready for a new chapter. However I appeared to have been wrong as it seems that THIS book does instead.... it even ends with a review of all of the major characters and what happened to them afterwards, even including Mr XIII, which is a bit strange seeing as we still don't really know who Mr XIII is. We do know now that he speaks good Spanish, but not alot else new. This book is more about the ongoing drama which was created in the last few books than on the history of Mr XIII himself. There is some lively activity cumulating in a potential world war three nearly being launched by the US military following an attempted coup and murder of the US president - and thats all in the last few pages. Actually it got a bit too unbelievable at times, almost James Bond style silly-ness, which I know some people love but I prefer a bit of realism as opposed to things just turning up just as they are needed in the story. You know what I mean; "what we need is a chopper" "digadigadigadigadigadigadigadigad" "hey whats that noise?Its going to be interesting to see how many of the characters will now appear in the subsequent books seeing as some here appeared to have been "closed" potentially. We shall see.....

Loved the game and the CB
