Q: How long do these last before they wear out? I go through metal mask files faster than I'd like

These files are MUCH better than other brands I have had in the past. The grooves are etched into the metal, instead of having glass bits sprayed on. I found that the ones with a sprayed on surface wear out quickly, leaving only the smooth metal below. That can't happen with these files. They are very sturdy, and the little case they come in make them easy to find in a drawer (if yours is cluttered, like mine!). They are two sided, with one being a finer groove, for smooth finishing. I have no hesitation in recommending them.

Q: What grits are the files?

I'm not quite sure what you mean by "grits" but filing surface is etched into the metal with a tiny grid pattern on one side, and a tiny fan pattern on the other providing 2 types of filing (one rougher, one smoother). I've been using them for a while now, and really love them. I hope that helps!

Q: Can these be sterilized in an autoclave?

I’ve never used an autoclave, but this file is all metal.
