Global Street Design Guide

The nr1 planners Bible in urban matters
This should be the Bible for every urban designer, planner and particularly traffic engineer. It is usually the traffic engineer who through s the spanner into the works, arguing some or other outdated engineering standards. Now we have a tool based not on hunches, but real global president studies. A compelling argument against anybody insisting on even wider single use traffic lanes. The book is structured in a very concise, practical and understandable manner, also showing all the necessary dimensions needed and related matters. I do miss one minor thing though. Seeing that the book just about covers any and every scenario in street usages and design from poor to affluent areas, it may have been a positive contribution to have included the covered walkway more extensively. Urban streets such as Bern, Switzerland, or Bologna, Italy, Cape Town, South Africa or New Orleans, USA are best examples of human street edge design, protecting the pedestrian from the elements and basically adding more value to the urban space. This would be particularly applicable to hot arid countries. But, apart from that, this is an excellent book to have, no money wasted.
