I would recommend the Spanish blu-ray.
The Spanish blu-ray seems to offer all the features listed. Most importantly for me, it works in region A and has both French audio and English subtitles as available options. The picture is beautiful, though mildly faded. The disc itself is a BD-R but spotless and appears professionally manufactured. As for the story-- It's pretty much told in the trailer. There's little-to-no gore but the woman is a stone cold killer. Definitely worth the purchase price, I think, even if you only watch it once.

Careful with MR. FAT-W VIDEO
There are certain bootleg DVD’s that are necessary, because in this post-apocalyptic world of home video, you need certain titles, anyway you can get ‘em. Then there are bootleg DVD’s that make you very sad. And make you feel very foolish. Choose your selections from MR. FAT-W VIDEO wisely. DVD-R’s that can save your life or cause mental health problems. It’s a 50/50 chance. MR. FAT-W VIDEO’s product release of François Truffaut’s 1968 gem of a Hitchcock neo-noir made me cry often. Like a cry baby.

One plus and one minus - still equals 5-stars
This particular copy of "The Bride Wore Black" was selected because it said that "English -Dolby" was one of the spoken languages. It seems as though that is wrong. English subtitles only with this version. But, English subtitles are better than none like on the Region 1 version I already owned. This one was Region 2 and Amazon tried mightily to tell me that ... but, I wanted to test my new Multi-Region + Blu-ray player. And ... the Multi-Region player worked as advertised !!! So ... Region-2 and PAL now play on my TV's here in the US !Even if you don't have a version that has English subtitles, the movie still works for me ! This is one HOT movie !

Revenge? or Just Obsession?
This 'revenge' story, with Truffaut's deft handling is so much better than most other 'revenge' stories. Somehow this 'typical type' story avoids cliché. We have seen it so many times before, but this time we are left wondering if any 'justice' was served or if we were just watching an obsessive woman played by Jeanne Moreau wreak havoc with only dubious justification. It is the opposite of a 'feel good' revenge story, if such a thing exists. The tale unfolds skillfully as the perspective of the 'guilty parties' slowly comes to light.

Ok but Moreau fans will be disappointed.
Early Jeanne Moreau film. Ok story but JM fans will be disappointed if they are looking for the awesome work of the actress who performed w perfection in Jules and Jim. I bought it to have one of her early films in my collection. Serves the purpose but I wouldn't recommend it for purchade otherwise.

The Bride Wore Black
Great French classic. Moreau is wonderful in all her guises, and the ending is terrifically played out. All lovers of French cinema should see this.

The Bride Wore Black.
One of the first Truffaut films I remember seeing when it was shown on TV in the early 70s, this is still one of my favourites by the director.Based on Cornell Woolrich`s 1940 noir revenge thriller (a good read if you enjoy the genre) he alters the setting (and indeed the whole structure of the storyline) to suit it's modern (1968) French locale. Jeanne Moreau is the mesmerising anti-heroine and the set-piece murder scenes clearly owe a debt to Hitchcock in their precision, inventiveness and the dark humour that pervades the movie.Truffaut apparently wasn't that happy with the film, it was something of a troubled production and it wasn't well-received on release; I think there's agreement now that it is a classic; perhaps not the director's very best, but certainly one I personally rate highly. The DVD I have is the French Pal 2 release with English subtitles as listed above; the transfer is not perfect, but acceptable even on a large-screen TV; I'm just glad to have found a copy after all these years – I love this film, and am always happy to recommend it to others.

An engrossing tale of revenge
Jeanne Moreau plays the bride whose husband is shot dead on the church steps just after their wedding. She then determines to track down those responsible and see that they die. They begin to meet quite different ends as she pursues her obsession, which is slowly driving her mad.The ending, which explains why her husband died comes as a complete surprise.Another good film by the esteemed director. Francois Truffant, and it was a Golden Globe nominee.
