I didn't want to like this book, but I did...
I have to admit, I wasn't sure about this. I found this when someone was talking about new pulp stories that were similar to Doc Savage. Having grown up on the adventures of Doc and his crew, I often enjoy reading similar tales.Well, when I read the summary on Amazon, I have to admit that the Nazi gorillas line, sort of made me wonder if I would like the book. While, a lot of the things in the book were fantastical in nature, I found that the author really did a good job making the action and story seem grounded in "the Doc Vandal" reality.I really had a good time reading this book and have now purchased the others in the series. While I hope to never run into a zeppelin full of Nazi gorillas and zombies, I have to admit that reading about Doc battling them was quite enjoyable.

Another Doc Savage pastiche, but in a world all his own
It's tough to rate some of these kindle purchases. I usually think of three things that matter to me: the quality for the price, the quality of the read, and the individuality of the work. It was reasonably priced and I was happy about that, obviously so since I bought it. It was unremarkably written, tending to over-simplicity in plot and unprofessional newbie in writing style. However, for all those attributes, it was a creative look at a pulp world, one in which Nazis, gorillas, zombies, airships, and dinosaurs all coexist. And no one is surprised by it! I've read better written stories that simply go nowhere. This one, at least, takes me someplace different, and one that I'll continue to follow. There is just no pretension in this book; it is unashamedly...umm, pulpy?

Sure it's a takeoff on the bronze fellow, but...
Robinson starts with a sort-of pastiche on Doc Savage, then gives us a wild plot that goes into territory never dreamed of in the pulpish Thirties. The Nazis apes in this book are real apes, as in, you know, gorillas...talking gorillas. The adventure is not based, of course, in our own world but in a fever dream reality that never was but really would have been cool if it had been. Great fun!

Pulp adventure done right.
A rollicking adventure. This is pulp fiction written by a man that knows his stuff. A nice self-contained adventure that sets the stage for more Doc Vandal to come.

Original Adventure Sci-fi in the tradition of Ryder Haggard but for a modern audience
Modified human, Doc Vandal, grew up on a lunar colony attended by androids and other mechanica. Through his eyes, the world is messy, illogical and fascinating but certainly nothing to get emotional about. Together with his team - Vic, Gus and Gilly - Doc takes on specialized cases that require his particular expertise. When members of a secret society attack him in his home, Doc finds himself on quest for the truth. Together with his team, the trail leads them into a hidden city in Africa, where an enemy older than humanity itself, awaits them. Zombies, zeppelins, Nazi-Gorillas and space stations - it's all in a days work for Doc and the team. If they can escape alive that is...This is classic pulp for a new era. Rider Haggard meets John W. Campbell in a fast paced and highly unusual adventure story. I was (perhaps oddly) put in mind of the Allan Quatermain series, as well as classic sci-fi. On the surface the premise may seem preposterous. I invite you to look closer. Many books that seem unlikely are often entertainment goldmines and this is one of them. Doc is a great character. The way he sees the world is amusing and poignant; very much in the world but not of it. Gilly, Gus and Vic provide hilarious banter while still getting job done. Not one of the crew is a walk on part and well, who wouldn't love a highly sophisticated Gorilla with classic elocution? This isn't a particularly long read but it is lots of fun and left me with a feel-good aftertaste. Such disparate elements as Zombies, space stations, Nazi-Gorillas and zeppelins probably shouldn't go together, and yet here they do and it works. Put some comfy slippers on, switch off the TV and the phone, pour a beverage of your choice and kick back and enjoy for a few hours, that's my advice.

Old school pulp at its finest
Harkens back to the golden age of pulp, reminiscent of the Doc Savage series but with a few twists and turns unique to this author. Fans of old school pulp will not be disappointed with this series. Thoroughly enjoyed the first book and will be moving on to the others soon. Give this action packed story a chance, you will not be disapointed

Surprisingly Engaging
I didn't know if I would like this or not, as I am not a huge fans of pulp style heroes, but I greatly enjoyed the book. A few minor grammar and the odd spelling error here and there do not distract from the fact that Mr Robinson crafted a story a story he immensely enjoyed writing.Thumbs up! Now onto Book 2.
