Quick & satisfying Romance Read...
Enjoyed the history of doomed romance spattered in the pages (sort of a foreshadowing, setting the stage). Meanwhile the thread of a contemporary, but not specifically lesbian (although it is) romance is woven through in romantic cities like paris, et. al. Well written and I look forward to reading more of Jeanette's books in future--this was my first.Found a really fantastic Jeanette Winterson documentary (My Monster and Me) on YouTube which prompted me to order this book--it's mentioned in the documentary and it was fabulous to see Shakespeare & Co. with the lovely Sylvia Whitman, who supported Jeanette's career at a time when she needed it. Good doc, good book--very happy with the time & money spent. Well worth it if you are a writer.

Winterson writing Winterson
Classic Jeanette Winterson from the turn of the millennium. Like Gut Symmetries and Art and Lies, The PowerBook is a cerebral fractured fairy tell. The love story is told through philosophical prose. Wintering uses the the Canon to her own ends. And I can't help but lose myself in her pitch perfect arrogant voice. She has the chops and uses them to reshape the reader's own reality.

I never had erotic thoughts about tulips before this book...
Ms. Winterson does it again.A novel for the information age, just when we all thought computers would spell the death of literature! This is a book to read..no savor...several times. I loved it.Oh...and I look at tulips in a whole new way...

read PowerBook
Once again Ms Winterson paints then peels away the lived aspirations of monotony to dazzle us with ourSelves. Oxygen in a carcinogenic atmosphere. She dances between passion, intellect and fantasy, to shape that array of self images seen only with and through lovers eyes. Painful propositions, haunting laughter and that awful feeling that someone has your number. Get a little dishevelled, read PowerBook.

Contrived or not, Winterson's writing is poetic and fun to read.My favorite line: Meatspace still has some advantages for a carbon-based girl.

Every time I start to like it, it changes and I almost can't be bothered to continue. I did read to the end but I've spent my time with more interesting explorationships and more fulfilling discussions on the power of the imagination and language.

Powerful..
Winterson's 'The Powerbook' is extremely interesting; it flows well, despite the fact that she jumps in and out of various narratives. Recommend.
