Coastal Pet Products Walk Right Holt Total Control Dog Harness - Large - Perfect for our Golden Retriever
This is our second Coastal Holt Walk Right dog control harness; the first one lasted for three years, which is 2 years and 6 months longer than any other leash or harness we've tried with this hound. Last week the adjustment mechanism kinda blew apart, so we ordered a new one and hope to get three years of service from it too.Our Golden is 4 1/2 years old and about 62 pounds, but he still acts like he is about 6 months old. Play, play and more play... the dude really likes to run and just have fun. When I take him out for walks he is acceptably obedient (will Come, Sit, and Heel given voice and/or hand commands), responding after just one command about 90% of the time. Though I may have it with me, usually I do not even need to use a leash. For whatever reason, the same can not be said when my wife takes him outside for a walk. If not on a leash he will often make a full speed, bee-line run into the woods, or a mad, romping, splashing dash down the creek... these things are fun when desired, but a pain when my wife is just trying to let him out one last time before she heads off to work. When on a standard leash, he tends to pull her around while trying to take off (to catch the multitude of imaginary bunny rabbits and squirrels, I suppose). This harness put a stop to those behaviors. Now, my wife uses a medium length leash connected to this harness, and her favorite leash to use with the harness is the Kong Control Grip Leash. When our dog starts to pull, this harness softly (no sharp corrective metal burs or links) and evenly tightens up all around him without pinching his chest or binding his legs. This type of tightening must instantly give him a signal to quit pulling, because he does.So... if you have a situation like this and are looking for a good, humane, effective solution, we highly recommend this dog and people-friendly harness.

What a JOY!!!
Walking a Bullmastiff has its challenges. One of those is the strength that they have and do not know it. We have tried the neck collar only, and also a harness with the collar. Well the collar I think encourages pulling and the harness starts cutting into the back of his leg. I was then told about this product by an associate at a chain pet store, and although I just used this once; what a big change. It is a very simple design with a big impact. It looks intimidating at first but it is very easy to use (looks more like a rope of some sort). Think, big loop first around the head and then small loop and it is actually easier to put on then some harnesses. The big loop gets the body and the legs (Make sure that the lead is on the top of the dog in the middle of their body), and the small loop goes around the head. Adjust the spring clip on the lead end and then you are ready to go. No longer is pulling as much of an issue or am I worried about wearing a sore spot onto his body. Having it be a "smooth rope" is a great advantage, no sharp areas to irritate the dog's skin. Simple solution for a uncomfortable problem for the owner and dog.

Excellent harness!
I bought my first one of these in 2007 and it had served me well through the lives of five rescue pups. It only recently started to fray after heavy use with my current dog. Obviously sturdy and very comfortable for a dog to wear. It took some searching, but so glad I found it again! Easy to put on once you get the hang of it - over the head, left each leg through the loop and it is on. Buy it!

Perfect for us
We’ve been using this brand of harness for about 3 years now. We had to replace it as the metal piece that attaches to the leash broke from our fur baby yanking while on his tie out in the backyard. This harness works perfect for our fur baby both for walks and to hookup to his seat belt in the car. He weighs about 60lbs and fits a medium harness perfectly. It’s very hard for him to get out of it, but not impossible. The only way for him to get out is if he pulls backward while I’m pulling forward. Thankfully, this has only happened twice in the 3 years we’ve been using it. Overall, very satisfied with it because it helps keep our very energetic boy under control on walks.

Great harness!
I have used this harness for about a year with my dog. Actually, this purchase will be our second HOLT control harness- the first one was uhmm...chewed. I really like this harness. The control is great and the dog does not seem at all in pain or any real discomfort (I assume that it must feel somewhat annoying to her when she pulls, because it works great). Our dog pulls sometimes when being walked with a regular harness or with the collar. She walks pretty well and is good under voice command most of the time, but she is big (65lbs) and she could certainly drag me if she wanted to. So, I would say that she is not a case of a really bad puller, but she does get carried away at times (squirrels, birds, other dogs all get her going) and with a regular harness or collar, it can get pretty annoying to walk her. The holt collar was recommended to me by the dog trainer & foster that I adopted her from. I also, definitely, recommend it-The reason I give it 4 stars is that I wish there were more sizes- We have to use the large since the medium won't fit around her chest- but the large is really too large and there is a bunch of extra length that hangs there after it's adjusted. This is not a problem when she's on leash (it just gives you extra length-kind of nice, actually), but if we get to a place where I want to let her off-leash, I have to either take the whole harness off of her or wrap the extra foot of harness around itself and tie it off. It's obviously not enough of a problem to prevent me from buying another one, but just something to be aware of.
