Q: Broadcast of the ssid at the remote end is directional, right? is there a way to make it more omni?

The devices are working at WDS+AP(Access Point) mode, they are not only directional for clients at short range. But if you add an additonal router, access point or repeater, it shall be more omni.

Q: Can both units be reconfigured as individual wireless bridge at two locations to send signal back to router?

Yes, but transimission distance between the bridge and the router may be not so far, it depends on the router. If you need longer transmission distance, you can use the router and add a set of the bridges, using cable to connect the router to a bridge of them.

Q: Is this just for webcams or is it a standard wireless bridge (i.e. for extending internet)?

It is a standard wireless bridge (i.e. also good for extending internet), configuration is like Internet to Master (wired), then to Slave(wirelessly), then to router/access point(wired) or directly to end devices(i.e. mobile phone) wirelessly.

Q: What kind of cables do I need? Computer to antenna 1 and antenna 2 to wireless router?

Ethernet cables, you could find them in the package. They are 1 meter long though.
